It's so cute that your girls are cleaning up the waterways while you hunt. Even a little bit of plastic and stuff can do a lot of damage in those areas so they are really helping.

Yeah, I noticed them always picking up and playing with garbage, and I HATE seeing all the trash in some of my hunting areas, so I figured we might as well put their interest in garbage to good use! Believe it or not, they think picking up the trash even more fun than they did when they were just playing with it! LOL Sometimes we have trouble getting them to leave when its time to go, because they keep finding more trash! LOL

Ducklings are precocial, which means they can survive on their own. They still need protection from predators (thank you Joseph) and warmth, but are fully capable of foraging for themselves. Edit: kind of sad, and also excellent that the girls are committed to removing garbage.

It’s so fun watching the girls go hunting with you, kids are constantly in need of something to do and it’s so wonderful they’re learning to give back to the environment by collecting garbage. You can tell how much fun they’re having!! Kids love the satisfaction of feeling like they’re making a contribution too, and they’re getting beautiful lessons in empathy (notice Olive wants to share the duckling with other children but respects the need to return it to the wild, then picks up some trash for Ellie to have 😭💖). At the same time they’re comfortable with the realities of life and death (in other videos you’ll see Olive is completely unbothered by handling recently dead muskrats). These kids are going to grow up to be such wonderful, emotionally mature human beings, I love watching them develop as time goes by. Joe is doing a phenomenal job parenting them!!

You can't kill muskrats for fun 😡
@JosephCartertheMinkMan
@JosephCartertheMinkMan 3 жыл бұрын
You can't get on the internet and judge/hate complete strangers for fun! 😉😛 In contrary to your rash assumption, there are lots of reasons, we hunt for muskrats. One of the reasons is they are great food for the mink. Kind of like asking someone with a dog why they keep going to the store to buy dog food.... The meat is also great for us to eat, being similar to lean/tender beef, with a very light liver undertone. Most of the locations we catch them they are also pests, causing erosion and flood risks by digging in the banks of irrigation canals. Another reason is that mink naturally hunt muskrats, so they obviously enjoy the activity, as do I. We even put their fur to good use, trading it to fur traders for their muskrat and beaver carcasses, giving us even more meat for our mink and dogs. This video discusses the flood risks muskrats create.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/op6sgqmaaMqhg9k

Hello! I have recently viewed your "A day in the life of the mink man". I respect your feeding practices. I will note that, should you obtain a German Shepherd, it is POSSIBLE that dog could have problems with chicken. I had a friend who bought cheap whole chicken and cooked it for her German Shepherd [her practice of dog food prep.]. The food did not agree with her dog. [I do not recall whether the dog lost her appetite or had itching or what in fact happened.] I only mention this because various dogs have different food sensitivities. Which you might watch when you get a new dog. [OK, I respect your capabilities. Other people not familiar with some dog's problems might benefit from knowing.]

1:10 no, hunger level is dependant on blood sugar and several other factors (body insulin resistance, if we have effective or not effective methabolism..) EDIT 2:45 but body fat is measured - simply put - they run some current through you, dunno how it worx exacly but it's pretty precise measurement

The hunger levels for mink and such remind me a LOT of the weight versus hunting drive for those who do falconry and hawking. Falcons and hawks won't hunt if they aren't hungry or interested. Hard to catch them too when they go off the fist if they aren't hungry enough to return for their meaty reward.

Mink are very interesting predators, that was a very cool shot of boon staying to the bank while he looked for prey. It’s a shame that they’re such hard work and are vicious, I would’ve loved to have one but hey Stoats are fun as well!

That sick was orphaned and probably needed to be taken home and raised until he flew away on his own. I take em in like that and raise em until they fly away every year. We raise every kinds dicj that comes through north Alabama and Georgia along with quail and turkeys and when they’re old enough they’re released or take off on their own. We try to keep the interaction to a minimum. It’s helped the populations of those fowls around our place tremendously. Before anyone else tried this you need to check with your states wildlife division to make sure you’re within your legal bounds. If you need a special permit then your states wildlife officer may interact with you to help you and notify you when a turkeys nest is hit by a farmer or whatever.

I love this video, the clear water, the waterfall sound, watching Boon go crazy swimming in the clear water. He gets the muskrat and goes back starts trying to cache it then *POW💢* all that freaking garbage gets in his way where he can barely move. You do yourself proud by you showing your daughters how to care by helping remove some of people's carelessness. 🚮🗑️

Why would you let him take the muskrat up the hole? That's reinforcing him to do that each time he catches something.
