Boondocking in Baja California is one of the most rewarding experiences for those who love adventure, freedom, and off-grid living. But to truly enjoy the beauty of the desert, the rugged coastline, and the remote, untouched places Baja has to offer, you need to be prepared. In this video, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned about setting up for a successful boondocking experience-especially when it comes to power, water, and respecting the land we camp on.
When you’re far from the convenience of hookups, having a reliable power system is critical. Right now, we rely on a generator and multiple batteries to keep our rig running, but we’re looking to expand our solar and battery capacity in the near future. Solar is a game-changer for off-grid living, and having the right setup means you can stay out longer without needing to run a generator. In this video, I’ll explain how we currently manage our power needs, how we conserve energy, and what upgrades we’re planning to make our setup even more efficient.
Water is another major factor when you’re boondocking. It’s amazing how little water you can get by with when you’re mindful. Simple habits like using a spray bottle for dishwashing, taking quick showers, and reusing water where possible can stretch your supply much further than you’d expect. I’ll go over some of my best water-saving tips and how we make sure we always have enough on hand.
Groceries and food storage are also key. In Baja, grocery stores aren’t always nearby, so planning meals ahead, stocking up on non-perishables, and knowing how to store fresh food properly can make a huge difference. You don’t need as much as you might think-less waste, less water usage, and more efficiency in cooking all go hand in hand with a good boondocking setup.
Most importantly, boondocking comes with a responsibility to respect the land. Baja is a wild and beautiful place, and it’s up to us to keep it that way. That means packing out all of our trash, being mindful of our footprint, and never leaving anything behind. It also means respecting the locals, the environment, and the delicate ecosystem that makes this place so special.
If you’re thinking about boondocking in Baja or anywhere off-grid, preparation is everything. In this video, I’ll walk you through what works for us, what we’ve learned, and how we plan to improve our setup so we can stay off-grid longer while being as self-sufficient and eco-conscious as possible.
