Haha. Watching you disassemble your Trangia Cookset so smoothly reminded me of when we were trained to disassemble and reassemble our M-16's in US Army basic training. It would have been even more impressive if you showed everyone at the end you did it all while blindfolded.

@@boonedockery7220 sounds a plan brother, I have many gas stoves MSR, jetboil etc, but it's the functionality and durability of the trangia equipment just sets it apart, prefer my 27 over any other stove I own. Purchased the green fuel bottles after watching your video, there still way cheaper on the trangia site 👌

Excellent review! Full of rock solid, straightforward, and still comprehensive information. And I too have watched a LOT of KZbin stove reviews. This one does stand out. I own many many stove systems. But when it comes to backpacking I've used the same Trangia spirit burner for nearly 30 years in both fair weather and foul. No moving parts, nothing to wear out or break. Silent operation (as opposed the "landing jet" sound of many of my other stoves). Reliable. Reasonably efficient. And a good "cooker". There's so much emphasis on "speed" these days that most stove designs have become blow torch water boilers that can't cook without scorching. I've never understood "the rush" when I'm out backpacking or camping. The whole idea is to get off the clock and slow down. The idea that I'm going to be timing my stove in the backcountry just seems silly to me. What I want is a quiet, rock-solid-reliable stove that can boil water while I pitch camp, but can also cook bacon or fry an egg without a white hot spot on the bottom of my pan. Trangia fits that bill and has never let me down.

Hi! I totally agree to your review. This system is just a joy and so fun to use. If you want even more fun and a little challenge when cooking I will recommend the Trangia 28 Mini. It's tiny and require you think twice to figure out how your meal will be a succes. Highly recommended! Happy cooking from Denmark.

THANKS FOR A FINE DEMONSTRATION OF AN ICONIC SET! Post-Viet Nam, many 'Righteous' Backpackers were rocking Trangia or Sigg equipment. I confess I opted for Coleman PeakOne gas stoves because they did not require priming in cold weather and they produced a stronger flame. In those early times, I did not see a double windscreen system like this on the trail. It is a game changer. I have ALWAYS wanted a Trangia tea kettle...but we were backpacking as a family and needed to heat or boil more water. The low and wide Trangia kettle design offers great stability...and I have seen current Bushcrafters even use them to do Ramen Noodle packs and to eat the result right from the kettle. THAT'S efficient use of equipment.

Hi from a Brit expat living in Malaysia 🇲🇾. Came across your channel in my YT feed today, loved it and subscribed. Have been dying to get one of the Trangia storm cookers for a number of years now and finally bit the bullet last month, although I had to order mine from the UK as they're difficult to source locally. Unfortunately due to a series of postal strikes in the UK, what normally takes less than a week to reach me is still stuck in the colossal mail backlog over there. All the Trangia accesories I ordered online from Trangia suppliers in Taiwan arrived in 5 days! . At least I have my trusty Firebox Gen 2 to rely on when I go out on a hike in the meantime 👍. Looking forward to catching up with the backlog of your videos in the weeks ahead. Happy Holidays and all the best for the year ahead.

Hello, And welcome to the channel! First of all I apologize for the delay in my reply. I had 5 of my videos that "went NUTS" and my normal two or three comments that appear daily increased to hundreds. I have had to deal with numerous personal issues to include the death of my Mother. I have been replying to comments daily and I still have more than 1,000 to go. Hopefully you have received your Trangia storm cooker and have had numerous opportunities to use it. Your Firebox G2 is an awesome stove as well. I used my Firebox for the entire winter camping season last year. It more than proved it's worth! Thank you for your holiday wishes. For the most part it was a wonderful holiday season. I trust yours was as well. Blessings!

Best did i have seen on this item todate. I have 27 tranjia. Aluminium great bit of kit. There is an army version and stainless steel version. If youd used thoese for your fire pit instead of the alumunium bodies type. I think that would have worked for a fire pit solid fuel coke wood etc even wax firelighters.. Its very versatile kit i have a kettle not trajiaand does fit wind shield. . I also have another tranjia burner its just aluminium tin but does fit the shields. This just cost £2.00 from camping store in uk Have a good new year.

Thank You Very Much. When I have the time to do so, I love to research the history and development of the items in my kit. I always research the items before I drop the coin on them but there are few items worthy of going down "The Rabbit Hole" in order to satisfy my curiosity. I originally was going to purchase a Swiss Surplus Meta 50 but every retailer I found was sold out. Back then they were selling for $15 to $20. Now they are highly collectible and IF you can find one you'll be paying "Collector Prices".

I love my trangia and all the useful trangia accessories I use along side it. I have purchased many stoves over the years, all great in their own niche ways but I always find myself packing one or other combination of my trangia sets for most of my adventures. It's size, weight and efficiency is probably not optimal and I wouldn't accept that in most of the other equipment I use but for some reason I forgive my trangia equipment for all those things, unconditional love I guess. I know it will never let me down, period. Any failure has always been down to me and my operator error, not my trangia equipment. Great video and a big thumbs up from across the pond here in England.

Great Review, The gas burner is made so that in cold conditions the gas canister can be inverted so liquid fuel goes to the burner and the burner has a heating loop, I have cooked a full roast dinner using a Trangia 25 using the gas burner with a cast iron pot on top, It produced plenty of heat to cook the roast. A+ for the Trangia design as a lifetime cook set that can be passed onto the next generation, and they are virtually unbreakable for motorcycle camping.

I use this for a month or more at a time in the arctic every summer. You can’t really use all those mini sets for anything substantial our there. Too wet, windy, too few cooking options. The trangia is enough of a kitchen that if you know what you are doing you can bake, fry, deep fry, boil, steam or whatever else you put your mind to. It’s economical with the fuel and functions reliably, and every detail about it has been carefully thought out and then field-tested for ever. I live off a bag of rice a few onions and seafood I get spearfishing when I am out - and I want to be able to cook in a varied and creative ways and get good results.

@@andygrayson7485 I guess it could be. Ive been considering something like that for a while, but I don’t have a camera, let alone a waterproof one - and there is an issue of batteries. I keep a phone charged for emergencies (aside from a garmin inreach) and weather forecasts and I can keep that running with a portable solar panel and a couple of powerbanks, but I doubt it would sustain charging a bunch of camera gear, especially if it was going in the water as well ….

good design endures time... Trangia is still the best alcohol stove & cooking system, by far. My back-up system is a Firebox twig stove, which is also a great design, very efficient and very small. Because of open-flame-burner restrictions I am considering buying the butane adapter for my Trangia, although I am a not a great fan of gas cartouches (environmental issues). If a lot of output is needed then I use my old reliable Primus or Whispy. Fuel efficiency and weight are an issue to consider, but even so the traditional Trangia system makes a lot of sense, especially since alcohol is so cheap and readily available, and that there are no moving parts that could fail, besides it is so silent (not the case with my beloved Primus). I also have a Titanium alternative, which is great, but Ti pots are poor for cooking (cooking is not like boiling). All in all, even knowing that my Trangia might not be the most "efficient" stove, I would still prefer it over any other brand/model. And besides, do you really think that a couple seconds more of boiling time would make ANY difference when you are outdoors enjoying the scenery? are you really in that a rush? c'mon... greetings from wild, wet, windy and wonderful western Patagonia

Many thanks for an awesome review that has information no other person has ever mentioned in watched videos. I've just ordered my 25-2 set (3-4 people/family) and intend to get the 27 for UL backpacking trips. The only problem I had was a choice between aluminium and HA-aluminium. Finally I decided full HA as I personally don't believe in non-stick coating based on my experiences with frying pans - they usually don't last very long (non-stick coating start to peel off) and food usually starts to stick anyway after some use even though am super cautious when choosing the right utensils or clean it strictly according to instructions. I have a set of decent quality 6 years old HA kitchen pans and they still work like brand new so am more of a HA fan - it's a personal research and choice. Trangia used to sell UL Duossal Cooker (two sheets of aluminium for better heat distribution and steel for durability pressed together) version but they've been replaced by UL-HA or full HA ones - slightly less weight, apparently similar durability, very good heat distribution / less hot spots, no corrosion and less maintenance than steel (a lot of pro chefs use steel although indoors). Steel requires more maintenance and some say is better for cooking or frying on fats to avoid sticking whereas HA can get away without fat for certain foods (I'd add some anyway for better taste or to avoid sticking depending on type of food and cooking/frying time, an example comparison of HA vs Duossal kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKWqgnaspLOreLs). I might get the UL Duossal just to test myself the difference - saying that if I manage to find one available as it's really hard to buy both full HA or Duossal that are usually out of stock.

Wow David!!!!! This Is Exactly Why I Love the Comment Section!!!! Anyone that watched my video will receive X amount of information based on my experience and research. When they read the comments and see a comment like this, they receive even more information to disseminate! Knowledge weighs nothing, yet at times it's difficult to find good information. I have had very good luck with HA aluminum. I generally use ghee when I use my HA fry pans. I am not a fan of "non-stick" surfaces for all the reasons you listed. I want a 25 set just because of the increased cooking capacity. It's been a real learning experience to determine the correct recipe/amount of food to be cooked per cook set!!!! It has all been fun! Thanks again David!

Firebox sells a gas burner attachment for their Firebox twig stove, which also fits into the Trangia. The Trangia gas burner costs about $80, while Firebox sells their burner for $35. For alternative fuels, you can use gel fire starter if you have a small bowl that fits the lower wind screen. Trangia sells such a bowl but you can use anything you have. The gel doesn't smell as bad as solid fuel tablets.

Unlike some types of camping stove, Trangia spirit burner stoves are perfectly safe to use in a domestic kitchen. This can be important if you live off-grid, or where household gas/electricity supplies can be interrupted, or where mains power is expensive.

Yes, agreed. I learned a lot from this review. I just went through a power outage and couldn't even warm up the food that I had put aside. I am considering the larger one, the 25 for the purpose of relatively safe indoor cooking during a power outage rather than propane or even butane. It looks like you could easily boil pasta, vegetables, and fry eggs, etc..

For me the best Trangia are the Storm Cooker 27-21 UL/D with Gas Burner, I have the Kettle 27 Small, 0.6 L and ditch the small pan, so one large pan and a kettle. I ditched the spirit burner many years ago, it takes much too long time to cook and uses too much spirit, so gas cooks much faster and uses not much gas, so it is a much more light weight solution with the gas burner ! Highly recommended.

As you say, it is not "the best" in anything, BUT it is a simple, compact and COMPLETE system that can be added to as you increase your needs or wear out certain components. While other kitchens are smaller and lighter they also have to have all extra pots and pans and wind shields added to them. In Sweden they are handed down through the generations for new experiences in the outdoors.

I enjoy stove/cook systems that have stood the test of time. learning to use them as they were intended to be used. I enjoy building things but not so much in to modifying things like this. I think using them as they were intended to be used, in it's way pays tribute to those that developed them years ago. The accessories that Trangia has made over the years does not change the design, but enhances it's usefulness. Coleman cooks stoves are the closest thing like the Trangia we have in the states. I love the older ones. There are several companies (Coleman included) that sell replacement parts for models dating back to 75 years. Those old stoves with replaced faulty parts work as well and are as reliable (if not more so than) as the new ones. I truly enjoyed researching the history of Trangia and seeing the product development over the years. I deeply appreciate the history.

@@boonedockery7220 mine is from the early 70:s, my father handed it down to me some 25 years ago. I think it´s about the same size as the modern 25 series. The only maintenance required is replacing the o-ring in the burner lid and keeping all the parts clean. I have been thinking of upgrading the stand for the burner so I get the hole for the gas fuel line but I kinda like the fact that with alcohol you always know how much fuel you have left and you dont neeed to bring more than you need. Which to me is essential when going out on a 7-10 day hike.

Thank You Karen! I have many stoves of various types. I enjoy using all of them for different reasons. This Trangia cook set is an absolute joy to "cook" with. I opted to go with the MSR Reactor over the Jetboil many years ago when I chose a high speed water boiling stove (primarily due to it's larger capacity). Both do what they were intended to do masterfully! The 27 affords me the ability to boil large or small amounts of water (much slower than the Jetboil) or to cook a meal from raw ingredients just like I can at home (and anything in between). I do plan on purchasing the larger 25 in the future. That way I could cook for several people and they can pack the food (load sharing at work). I own several Trangia products and none of them have disappointed me. I have plans for many more stove and Trangia product videos in the future, so check back every once and a while, you might just see another item that strikes your fancy. Boonedockery, I understand the paper/cardboard protector for the frying pan nonstick but doesn’t the pot lid strainer do the same thing? Not saying redundancy isn’t good. I’m just wondering. I’m waiting for the Duossal pots to come back in stock so I can get a 25 set for canoe camping. I was going to add the bigger nonstick pan with the folding handle and use the strainer lid between the top pan and the nonstick pan to protect it. Love to know what you think of that.

Prior to purchasing my kettle and multi-disk, I retained the shipping card that separated the fry pan from the rest of the kit. If you've watched any of my other stove videos you'll notice I retain and use all the shipping bags and the like. They protect them to some degree, the help reduce noise, the help keep the components clean and it keeps eating/cooking components separated from solid fuel residue. That's just what I do and why I do it. When I purchased the kettle and the multi-disk, I continued to use the shipping card. all plastics are abrasive to some degree. The surface of the multi-disc is smooth and will slide to some degree, back and forth on the none stick surface of the fry pan. The multi-disk is also hard so, the surface will not give when secured. Even with the retention strap tightened securely the interior components do move. My shipping card is fairly saturated with coking oil, which makes it somewhat tacky. The fry pan does not slide on it as it does the multi-disk. The complete kit, now with kettle and multi-disk stabilizes everything inside the cook pots very well. The shipping card between the multi-disk and the fry pan creates just enough of a separation between the multi-disk and fry pan the two never touch. with the slight tackiness of the shipping card permits no shifting or sliding to create eventual wear on the non-stick surface of the fry pan. That's just what I do and why I do it. The same protection could be achieved many ways. A silicone pot holder would work great. I know it's a complicated answer to a simple question, but, that's just me.... Eventually I will purchase many more products from Trangia, cook sets and accessories alike. Your acquiring a 25 for canoe camping is brilliant as is your decision to purchase the Duossal pots and larger fry pan!!!!!! For one person, the 27 is just fine. I just have to keep in mind when I cook I have to think SINGLE SERVINGS..... I've over loaded mine a few times. I doubt you'll have that problem with the 25!!!!! @boonedockery7220
@boonedockery7220 3 жыл бұрын
No Jeremy, I have not. Have you? I suppose I could do a very controlled test of Kerosene, Diesel, Lamp Oil and Petrol. It could be as much of a "This is why you should never do this" as a test to see if it works. I fear the Kerosene and Lamp Oil will burn very sooty and could impede the burner performance, perhaps the same with Diesel. The flash point and explosive quality of Petrol will be hazardous to light. Also the higher burn temperature of Petrol may compromise the metal the burner is made of. Okay, you planted the seed.... now to plan the tests.......

Thanks for a great video! I think one of the big advantages of the Trangia fuel bottles is the button. If you pour alcohol from a normal (eg: soda) bottle and the burner is too hot (or still burning), then the flame will go into the bottle, melt it, and you have a major fire. Don't ask me how I know :(. With the button on the Trangia bottle, if the fuel catches fire while you are pouring it, just let go of the button (or the whole bottle) and the fuel flow and airflow stops.

It is very interesting that you asked that. During one of my journeys down the rabbit hole doing research, I happened upon an older cooking system that was very similar to the Trangia. It utilized a type of solid fuel tab very similar to the Esbit tabs. The really interesting thing about this system was that the container the heat tab was placed to burn was a gasification burner that functioned just like a wood gasification stove. It was about the same size and shape as a large tuna tin. I have to get back down that rabbit hole because I am very intrigued by the design and potential of such a burner. Retha, (If you are referring to Colemans White Gas camp fuel) you NEVER want to use anything but alcohol in the Trangia alcohol burner. The white gas is basically gasoline/petrol and will explode into a fireball upon ignition, VERY DANGEROUS! I own one and it works beautifully! Have a great day Retha!

I didn't feel the video was necessarily needed to make people aware that it exists as if it were a well kept secret. I just LOVE the cook set! I know and have camped with several people that were aware it was out there, yet until they saw me using it, they honestly never considered purchasing one. Because it's a long time, tried and true design, a lot of "modern" wild campers and bushcrafter's won't give it a chance. Preferring to go with the latest and greatest thing on the market. I am saving up for an Uber 25 set, and I can't wait until I can order it! Please don't take offense to this, but, I don't really need your personal thanks for the video. I'm certain I have enlightened many people to the Trangia 27 as a possible option in cook sets that might not have ever seen them in the light I presented them. I do however appreciate you taking time to watch some (or all) of it. Perhaps one day I might produce a video that you will feel is worthy of appreciation. I love my trangia 25. I recently picked up a couple of the evernew titanium alcohol burners. With a silicone bracelet the evernew fits the trangia. Really like the evernew.

That's Crazy! The first one of those bottles I purchased was from a Canadian Business.... Granted they may have changed the rules since then.... It's the best fuel bottle design I've ever used. Hopefully they will come to their senses and allow the sales.

Never put aluminium in fire unless there is something in it to cool it down. You can very well use a pot or the kettle to boil water etc in a camp fire but using the wind shield for a fire is a no no. As you found out... Wood will burn at 300 degrees C and increase its temperature up till 600 degrees C while burning, and wood gases even higher, about same as melting point for aluminium.

The G in Trangia is pronounced as g in "goal" not g as in "Germany". Trangia fuel stove is manufactured by Trangia company out of Sweden.

@@boonedockery7220 You're welcome! Sorry for the tone of my comment. Was in a bad mood, kind of. Trangia is a great piece of kit. I bought mine in 1994 and it still works. It's the smaller one with Duosal pots (aluminium on the outside - stainless steel on the inside). Greetings from Sweden :)

I’m pretty sure lead free gas (petrol in uk) can’t be used in a Trangia burner, in fact, it would be very dangerous!

YES IT WOULD! Absolutely under no circumstance should anyone ever use gasoline/petrol in an alcohol burner!

@@boonedockery7220 I’ve just had to listen a second time, I thought you had said you could use it in a Trangia, you actually were saying about using a Trangia bottle to store it. To someone who wasn’t familiar with trangia, it might have sounded as if you were suggesting it could be used in the burner.

Quick question. If the Trangia cooking system uses pot, pans and kettles made from Aluminium then you are poisoning yourself with aluminium oxide. Even the non stick surface coating (Teflon) on the upmarket Trangia cookware is cancer causing, so are you aware of this?. Chiefs etc are not permitted to cook with Aluminium, copper or Teflon coating. Only Stainless steel, cast-iron or pure ceramic cookware can be used. My Trangia gear has been thrown out other than the burner and now I use the MSR stainless cooking gear. Love your videos

Thank you so much for your comment Mikey. I'll start off by telling you I am aware of the health risks associated with using aluminum and non-stick surface cookware. I am also aware that it takes many many years of exposure to chemicals and carcinogens to suffer (depending on individual genetic disposition) any ill affects of these hazards. I use this cook set rarely, perhaps several times in a year. I am not in anyway fearful of being harmed by my cookware. Trangia now has a product line called Duossal. Stainless Steel on the inside and Aluminum on the outside. All the safety of stainless steel with less than half the weight. Even Esbit has a line of stainless steel cook sets. Just to add this for anyone other than you that may read this, The Aluminum Oxide being released by any aluminum cookware is all contingent on the acidity level of what is being cooked or consumed. Furthermore the longer the contents rest in said cookware will also affect the amount of aluminum oxide. If you are boiling pasta, the amount is for all general purposes, non-existent. Tomato based pasta sauce, might be measurable on a minuscule level. Leave pasta sauce in an aluminum container for a couple weeks the amount increases. Nothing harmful unless you consumed high acid foods stored for long periods of time for many years. However, that being said, if you ate the pasta sauce from an aluminum container after two weeks, you would spit it out and throw it away as it would taint the flavor to the point it is unpalatable. Mikey I do not mean to marginalize your concerns, as a matter of fact I applaud you for taking a stand and doing what is best for your health. I pray you have a long happy life!

Fuel bottles. If you need get it out safely, make two hoses thru a cap. One just thru and other up to half way a bottle hight. Fuel come only one way out, caused of pressure differences between hoses. For carry and storage, use normal cap.

Trangia is cool and all, but aluminium is a pass for me. Not only for the pots. For most parts too. Making a fire underneath is an important backup. Personally I prefer everything stainless steel.

Thank you very much, Mark! I try to cover as many bases as I can with my videos. Most folks want a pithy 8 to 15-minute "review". I personally find those videos to be fluff, uninformative, and based on little to no experience with the product. I won't review anything unless I feel I have used it extensively enough to really know how it performs and holds up to long-term use. If you talk with the Folks from Trangia, tell them they can call my agent about doing commercials for them😆😄😅😆😄😅😆😄😅!!!!!! Have a great day Mark! I'm glad you liked the video!👍
