Never got off the old school bandwagon. It makes the most sense in a woodland environment
@boonedockery72204 ай бұрын
Yeah, I can kick myself now for getting rid of all the kit that I did. Even though, I believe "True" Multicam (Not OCP) works better in my neck of the woods year round, I still love the woodland, especially if it's a little faded. The BDU pattern of Uniform is far more practical than the ACU style. The Army should definitely go back to that pattern (IMHO).

I was in the USMC from 88-92. I spent most of 89 at Ft Bliss Tx in radar mech school. I had a 28yr old SFC from the NewMexico arng as a class leader (3 Marines in a army class, fun to say the least!). Anywho.. he told me the army rolled their sleeves like that in the event of an NBC attack you could just grab and pull them down. The Marine GySgt (ole Gunny Mosely), I recall laughed and said "yeah the Marines aren't doin what the army was, we decided to roll them up so we could pleat them and make tight on our guns"!

Back when we still had garment workers in the U.S. I had a lady modify a BDU jacket as follows. The waist pockets were moved to the upper chest. Chest pockets on sleeves. I also had a zipper installed on a field jacket liner per the Ranger Digest. Used these items trucking.

Those of us in 1990's deployable USCG Port/Maritime Security Units were issued BDU's... the camo pattern dependent on where your unit was to be deployed OUTCONUS. We were to be in the Central/South American AOO, so we had the Woodland cammies (from the Army, and USMC 8 point utility covers without the EGA). Other units had the 3 & 6 color DCU's. Someone in HQ originally issued directives that the blouses be tucked in like the 1st generation Navy blue ODU's (no bottom pockets). I've recently seen someone on eBay selling (for about $100 ea.) the Woodland blouses with the mod'd pockets as described here.

Always been a fan of the BDU style set. I wish more pants would come in non camo colors with a button fly too (or at least a fly that goes down as far as BDUs do so people like me aren't trying to pee with a kinked hose lol). My go to boot blouse is a combo of the two you showed, I wrap the cuff around my leg a couple inches below where my boots go and then cinch the boot (keeps the bugs out) and then drape the little bit of loose pant leg over the boot (keeps debri out of the boots, especially when prone and crawling). Where I'm at Multicam works best year round, especially the IHWCU...but I still can't bring myself to get rid of M81 stuff for nostalgia and because it works well in woods a couple hours drive away. Even if it doesn't fit anymore I still keep it to eventually pass down. 😁 Thanks for sharing the cool kit and even more for the stories you have that go with them.

I still love that LBE setup over the stuff that replaced it. I wasn't issued any plate carriers in Iraq 2003-04 until prior to redeploying home. We had the older kevlar flak vests and no molle gear. I would take off the canteen and ammo carriers from the LBE and attach them to the kevlar flak vests during convoys. It was less cumbersome and lighter during the 120F or higher temperatures. The LBE with H harness is one of the best pieces of gear ever made. As a kid growing up in the 80s, I always thought the SADF web gear looked awesome, but I'm not paying the price for what it's going for now to try it. I remember when the 1980s SADF web gear was plentiful with places like Sportsman's Guide and other military surplus stores, however I was a poor college student when it was plentiful. It seemed like a good woods setup and I believe it was all canvas. I have a collection of those books by Ranger Rick from when I was a cadet. I believe I have them in my attic and some laminated maps I made from his tips. He also had a segment for making a great survival hiking staff project. For the record, I hated the LBV-II.

As a Marine Corps veteran and Infantryman, I prefered the way the Army rolled up their Utility shirt sleeves...One could get them sleeves down in a hurry if it gotten cold quickly, rained or a gas attack / drill. at 28:34 modified Utility blouse / shirt, some of us modified ours, but we had made two sets breast pockets, the two on the outside and two on the inside just below the outside top pockets, kind of like the British combat smock. Pretty much for the same reason...Excellent video, it brought back some memories. Webbing, We called 782 gear, Army called LBE, we also had butt packs, and those canteen cup stoves you mentioned, we got two canteens, two canteen cups and a stove., I still have mine.

Yeah, the M16A1 is what I started out with... Those USAF SPs (Security Police) probably carried the GAU-5, it was the USAF version of the XM177E. The difference was no forward assist. I've a Troy Industries replica of the GAU-5 and its awesome. Really light, pencil barrel, it's a 12" barrel w/a 4" fake "moderator", I love it. Having started out w/ the ALICE gear in the 80s/90s, I've made my way back to a belt/suspenders kit for load bearing my gear. It's al PALS/MOLLE kit but it rides on my hips w/a 6 strap suspenders. Great video and you took me back to the 80s.

@@boonedockery7220 I remeber after being in the field I complained about the ALICE digging into me, and a friend who wore one of these green beenies suggested I wrap my belt w/the foam from the sleeping pad. I also replaced my clips w/zip ties another suggestion the same guy. He displayed his LBE, 4 mag pouches but both the tops and grenade holders were cut off. His mags had paracord woven under the base plate and and taped around the bottom. When I deployed, everything had moved from ALICE to MOLLE and we put all of stuff on our body armor. That really hurt my back. Now I wasn't ridge running or anything but I did have to do vehicle ops. So chest rigs made sense at the time. However, if I was out side the vehicle and had to get prone, made for a difficult proposition. Those original Colt 20rnd mags are awesome. Because of you and a couple other channels that do similar post like yours, I've created a LBE system that has some versatility. I'll be incorporating a DCU FLC as a "chest rig" kinda for additional mags and stuff. Really do enjoy you content and I've learned a lot.

There are several mission specific rigs I've assembled. over the years that fit that one purpose great but they are not rigs that can fulfill multiple roles. I am very pleased and humbled that you enjoy my content. I honestly just film whatever I happen to be tinkering with at the time. I always tried to keep up on military equipment and uniforms ever since I left the Army. I've bought and used a lot of kit over the years and I share your opinion on these "advancements".... Thank you for your service Brother!

😄😆😅😄😆😅👍👍👍 The last version of the OG107's and the cotton duty fatigues were still authorized for wear when I was in but no one wore them. Me and several in my scout platoon bought sets at a local surplus store (Gold Nugget Surplus, Radcliff KY) and wore them as OPFOR Uniforms. I was able to find a new old stock blouse and I'm looking for a pair of trousers. You'll see them in a future video.

Can you say "Flash Backs"!!! LOL. I guess I'm not quite as vintage as you, but I can relate as I went through 19D training at Fort Knox in 91.
