The interviewer is trying to act like hes encouraging his new life and moving on but is putting him down at the same time and throwing his past in his face. As someone who had real bad drug addictions for years and finally gave it all up last year, nothing is worse than the feeling of guilt over the things ive done to the people i care about. Of course accepting and learning from it, and making amenda is necessary, but having someone dragging me back through it out of anger or resentment is totally different. Wish him success and happiness, and hopefully he keeps himself straight because he is a likeable, talented dude.

As someone who's been sober for a couple years, I think it's selfish and immature to expect people to immediately give you a blank slate after you've seriously disrespected them or hurt them because of your addiction. You don't get to dictate how long someone is upset or how they deal with what you've done to them. One of the most important steps in the 12 step program for addiction is making amends. You don't get to decide how and when someone should forgive you. Personally, being reminded repeatedly of the damaging things I did ,to people I love, while I was struggling with addiction is a big deterrent for me when Im tempted to relapse If John didn't want to speak about how he had acted on the last show, he wouldn't have come on the interview.
