One of the reasons why this fight is so fucking amazing is because of the backgrounds of the fighters. Boonlai's gym, Sor. Thanikul, was owned by the most notorious mafia leader in Thailand's history Klaew Thanikul. Drugs, human trafficking, arms dealing, murder, Klaew did all of those. Boonlai and his twin brother Boonlong were given to Klaew's gym as a form of debt payment to Klaew. Believe it or not, Klaew treated his fighters well, he paid them handsomely and did not take advantage of them like many gym owners in Thailand like to do. Meanwhile Chatchai was probably the most skilled student from the Sityodtong gym which was owned by Yodtong Senanan (the greatest martial arts coach of all time without a doubt. He was also the coach of Samart and Kongthoranee Payakaroon). Yodtong cared for his students like they were his kids. He did a lot of things throughout his life in order to try and preserve and teach Muay Thai and Muay Boran. He apparently won the lottery at one point and gave his winnings away. A Muay Fimeu champion from a gym owned by a cruel mafia boss VS another Muay Fimeu champion from a gym where the owner was a selfless father figure. Chatchai suddenly passed away in 2002 while Boonlai is still around today teaching the next generation of Muay Thai fighters (not to mention Boonlai seems like a really nice guy lol).

How did chatchai die?

@@hioxd he became an alcoholic in the late 1990s which negatively affected his training and probably resulted in him getting a stroke just minutes after his final Muay Thai fight. He passed away in his trainer’s arms before he even reached the hospital
