First time listener! I LOVED it! Totally hit home for me as I grew up in Salt Lake City and with the mormon church. Growing up and realizing your gay when you have been taught your entire life its wrong, you will never go to heaven, you will never see your family again, etc... Freaking tramatizing!! Listening to you tell your story brought back so many different emotions and the levels of those emotions!! I knew EXACTLY how you felt or what your thought process was as you explained different moments and times in your life... Great job being vulnerable and honest. I appreciate that a lot! Then I got one more surprise with your coming out video! I knew you looked familiar somehow!! I remember watching your video YEARS ago. Freaking adorable. -- Anyways I subscribed! Gonna go watch more right now!!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I grew up in the South & came out in 1982 or -3 at 25yo to everyone I knew (was in college). Including my grandmother. It went better than I expected. It’s a bit disheartening that it’s still so difficult for people to come out now, but with all the coming out stories on YT and elsewhere the pace of acceptance has seemed to accelerate a bit, thank goodness. Cheers from New Mexico.

This is a great extended explanation of your journey. I've been following you for many years and always hope to be there in some way “for you.” Remember I did watch your wedding online!

So sorry that you had to go through that ordeal coming to terms with your sexuality and religion. I realized I was different from the other boys at a very young age, had some sexual experiences when I was very young, and then went through a similar religious ordeal between the ages of 13 and 17 or so; I didn’t come out to my family until I was 24. Such a waste of life to be afflicted with dogmatic religious views that cause self criticism and blame. I’m glad we’re on the other side.

As an asexual, hearing stories about people realizing their orientations and having their first girl/boyfriends in grade school is bewildering. Those topics couldn’t have been further from my mind at the time.

Although you and I are of different generations, and our stories have a lot of differences in specifics, I have a feeling a lot of our experiences internally were the same. I know what it’s like to grow up in a religious atmosphere that is very conservative and almost cultlike, and to think there was something wrong with me because of the way I felt toward other boys. But I think I’ll probably connect even more when you talk about your college experience at a Christian school, since I had the same kind of experience. So I appreciate hearing your story and look forward to hearing the rest of it in the future.

Omg this podcast was so good! It made me want to start therapy again because I've questioned my sexuality since I was a young teenager and I think it's time to address it.

All Gay men must have their Gay men friends group and all the LGBT people must do the same 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ It is important to be with people like us, to be around other Gay men and create Gay friendships inside our Gay community between us; in the same way that straight men and women have their women or men friends group. Gay men together forever ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Great coming out story Matt, I’m a country gay man, I have cerebral palsy I use a walker and wheelchair, I’m 34, I’m on the DL because my family won’t like me being gay! I can’t wait to hear your coming out story Michael! I’m still donating to the anesthesiologist Foundation, since it was hard for me to go to college because of my cerebral palsy, I really wanted to be a anesthesiologist, I can’t drive because of my cerebral palsy, so I’m gonna get my all electric Mercedes g wagon and let other people drive it for me! I love y’all much ! Y’all are my boys

I went to school with a couple of boys (men) that I now know that they maybe have been gay but this was in the years 1952-1960 in a catholic school. They were altar boys and their hands were always up when an altar boy was need. When we graduated we were 13-14 yrs old. I realize listening to you that they were gay. One die young as a male pro and the other died in Provincetown, Ma. I hope that they had friends that had been able to help them because we who were there first friends didn't know what they were going through.

Thanks, Matt, for going there again for us! I remember your coming out video. It helped give me the strength to come out a year or so after seeing it. I’m currently 44, so older than you. Just wanted you to know your video didn’t just help people your age and younger. I was a little surprised to hear you haven’t watched your original coming out video since you posted it. If you feel up to it, it would be really interesting to see you respond to it now and talk about how many people you heard from that it helped. 🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Romans 1:26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
