In the 90s we didn't expect rappers to actually go out and commit the crimes they rapped about in order to prove themselves as "real". Rapping is the art of storytelling, self expression, etc. It wasn't meant to be snitching on yourself, that's STOOPID. The police is your #1 listener 😂😂😂

Ultimately, people respect authenticity; it can translate into sales. Based on the music that gets supported by industry, it would seem to the untrained eye that you have to make "that kind of music" to make it as a successful artist. People only rap that way because of what the industry seems to support, but all the best artists who’ve ever lived could always think for themselves. It’s not so much as the artist is stepping out of the box as much as it is they are staying true to themselves. You can hear it when you play their songs. This is what people call talent and creativity. A great example of all of this is 'Hey Ya' by Outkast.
@KelticTim Жыл бұрын
Bullshit. Ever since rap started they been lying. Big is the only one I know of that told the truth, he said he sold some dimes and stuff like that but never the keys he rapped about.
@iammattlucas Жыл бұрын
@@KelticTim Biggie is dead. He was really about that life; the same life we all know will put you in jail or get you killed. Dead men can’t take their money with them. Based on your response, it would seem you only see authenticity through the lense of street shit or being "real". Being authentic exceeds what you do in life and how you choose to handle life’s challenges; being authentic is when you are and who you are. Evidence of that is Boosie’s music, but more importantly his interviews. We watch his interviews because THAT is Boosie when he’s being real. It’s can be funny, insightful, educational, wise, cautionary, etc., but it’s real. That’s why you watched this video.
@KelticTim Жыл бұрын
@@iammattlucas wtf are you talking about? Biggie said in his own interviews he wasn’t “bout that life”, he hustled some on the corner to feed his kid, he wasn’t moving keys across state lines like he rapped about. Based on my response you should pretty easily see that what I mean by authenticity is not lying or exaggerating, it’s kinda the definition of being authentic. Also, that’s not why I watch Boosies interviews, I think he’s a clown, I watch for a good laugh. His “authentic” is destroying other ppls lives, ask his co defendant. I don’t think he’s real or authentic just because he pays poor black kids to commit crimes, that makes him a pussy in my eyes. Go do your own dirt, he’s a pussy ass scumbag

Boosie hit some real notes there, talking about his son's rap game and the whole deal with authenticity. It's like he's seeing through the smoke and mirrors, you know? Comparing his son's lyrics to Michael Irvin's son's rap style, despite the differences in their backgrounds, is an eye-opener. The way music's being consumed these days, though, with streaming taking over, it's a whole new ball game. Sure, it's convenient as heck, but it's like we're losing that personal touch. Back in the day, copping an album felt like a connection with the artist. Now, it's all just a click away, and that depth seems missing. Vlad and Boosie are right on the money about that.
