Lovely. If duty cycle is getting high, try lowering solenoid frequency in TS. Great progress BTW !

Great Point, I did drop it down the frequency a bit, I could have gone a bit more, but it seems like the vent of the boost valve was just too undersized. I will spend some time looking for the best frequency this week!

@@CEKGarage If you dont plan on running much more than double the boost of the spring, setting it up as such: normal line from wg to boost source, TEE that line, like you would bleed normally to raise boost, and plum the solenoid on that bleed-tee. Invert the duty cycle in software and keep it off until 10-20kpa below wanted boost. That way, it will boost max until actually needed to work, and help spool. With this setup, you just have a controlled bleed instead of a full source manipulation, and you can yield great results this way with getting stable boost as well

Great point! I ran that style on another car a few years ago. This specific controller was an in-line style, so I did not think to run it in that way! I got it to work as the bleed style, but as I played with the pid settings today, it was a bit more touchy than my last car. Thank you for your tip and getting me to re think it! I will test it out tomorrow.

It looks like the VW solenoid is a 3 port type? 3 ports are plumbed with the 'common' port connected to the wastegate, and the normally closed to the manifold. When the solenoid is energised it dumps the pressure in the actuator. This gives much better control than using a restrictor pill.

Thank you! So I think I understand what you are saying and that makes sense. I pulled this one off a TDI. In looking through how they set it up I came up with the way I did it in this video. Thanks to your comment, I found out that they ran them a little different for the gas engines than the TDI. I will give this a shot tomorrow and see if it works better with less duty cycle! Thanks for watching

Hi, great stuff. How did wire it into the Speeduino? I see my V0.4.4 board has pin 35 marked as boost out, is it a direct connection (5V low power)?

Thanks for making the videos! Do you have to use pencil coils with speeduino or will i be able to keep my 4 in 1?
@CEKGarage5 жыл бұрын
You have a few options, if you are using a normal coil, you might need IGBT in between Speeduino and your coil to drive it if it is a dumb coil. If you have a smart coil, you can connect right to Speeduino and just use the 12v or the 5v jumper. There is some documentation here - speeduino.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware_requirements#Coils Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

@@CEKGarage Cheers! That makes sense. Going to be doing as you said and just get it running. Its a 1991 NA bmw m42 so shouldn't be too difficult. A few sticking points but have most of it figured out now barr the coilpack.

Love it! My brother in law (Brad that shows up on my videos from time to time) is a huge BMW nut. We might be doing a Speedy install on it in the future. (we have a 620 truck to get out of the way first) We started to collect parts, he is planning on using LS coils on his N42.

@@CEKGarage Id say there would be plenty of people interested in seeing that. There is a guy near me breaking an e36 m3. Going to try to shoehorn as many parts from the s50 in as i can.

Have you got restrictor pill in turbo -> wastegate line?
@CEKGarage5 жыл бұрын
Great question! No I am not. I am running a normal line as a block style boost valve right now. Going to try running it as a bleed off style later today!
@pawejusyn2375 жыл бұрын
@@CEKGarage It may help with duty cycle and match vent diameter as it restrict flow to the wastegate actuator. But you probably know it :) Btw great content. If you plan to run PID EGO control please do a video. I'm struggling to set it up. Cheers!

Thank you for the tip on the PID video! I can do that. I have been running simple for so long, time to tune it up!
