Great idea ,I will adapt it to my kayacat ,I think if the fin was 100% horizontal you would get more speed .

Very interesting application. Did you test the motorized fin in actual sailing conditions? My concern is whether the fin would hold up to the stresses on the rudder while sailing, particularly in a close hauled situation, where there would be significant lateral forces of water on the fin. If so, it would be great little boost for bring a sunfish into a traditional marina slip vrs. simply running it up on shore.

@@RobertFeucht I have not tested this under sail, as I do not think my first attempt at making a rudder attachment would be strong enough

Well, the little electric motor is cute and all ... but this just gave me a great idea of how to install one of my many outboards on my little sailboat. Thanks!

Rudder pinions....pre-installed mount point. (Unfortunately the rudder cheeks are kinda expensive....)

Great idea! Just remember to have the charging port sealed! Silicone ear plugs work really well

I'm slightly less worried about that due to my freshwater, but I did check it when I got out of the water and it looked like the included plastic plug worked okay this time.

This is the standard boost Fin but for this usage you would want to buy a their new larger battery pack Fin. They run in the 500 to $700 range.
