Yeah you should replace it. Never ever trust a 12 year old drive for important files. A friend of mine had a raid 10 array with 4TB WD black's. He bought them in I believe 2012 and they always performed great and had no bad sectors whatsoever until a month ago when out of nowhere a drive failed, he already ordered a new drive to replace it but two days after the first one failed, a second one also failed. This was the mirror. The drives are now in a data recovery centre, but this will cost him hundreds of euro's, maybe even more than a thousand and still they're not sure they can recover all the data. Anyway my message is always backup your files and don't trust to much on a HDD, especially a 12 year old. It is not reliable at all and can fail out of nowhere. HDD's can fail after a month, a year, 10 year or 100 years, but the danger of bad sectors and mechanical errors increases through the years. That's why I would recommend to at least start looking a bit for a replacement and I would go for SSD storage, TLC at least and even then backup your stuff. And if you're gonna stick with hdd's keep in mind that the quality of the drives haven't got any better through the years. For small storage demand, don't go for hdd's anymore! Sorry that this message got so long, but I can't get it over my heart that your old drive would fail and you wouldn't have had any backups or preperations for when the inevitable happens. And please don't let this advertisement mislead you, hdd's for the average consumers should be something from the past. They last way longer, are way more reliable and are soooo much faster.

WD makes good drives. However, for my boot drive I chose a Sabrent 2TB Rocket NVMe Gen4 PCIe M.2 and it truly rocks. I also have two 2TB Sabrent Rocket NVMe Gen 3 M.2's for storage.

prior to this year, i would tell people to stay away from WD drives. then i got an SN750, and so far im impressed. so impressed i have a 2nd one on the way to replace my 860 evo. and attached to my computer is the d10 8tb drive. which is a complete backup of my server. so for someone who in 2019 was telling people to avoid WD drives, i can say they finally got their shit back together and are making quality products again

You can’t notice the difference in speeds between sata and nvme. Just go for the cheaper one. Sata also comes in the m.2 form factor not just nvme.

I personally have the 500gb sn750 and can reccomend it. Everything so snappy and my pc loads up time is 13 seconds. Everyone on Samsung but u pay a big premium for nominal difference.

The 8TB Model does *not* have USB passthrough. Those USB ports are for charging only.

im only new to P.C gaming and i never thought u would install games on a mechanical hard drive vs even a SSD. Yes double the storage but 1/4 the speed. I would rather have 40 fast games then 150 slow. or get both and us the SSD as cash for the HHD win win. I just bought a sn750 500gb w/out a heat sink, and crystaldiskinfo says it is staying at the ambient room temperature of 25 degrees c (77 degrees f) Our house is usually like 71f but with our fireplace going, it is up around 75 to 80 degrees. Is this good, and means I shouldn't worry about throttling? Because if I am using my pc knowledge, and logic, I think it is.

I have a SN750. It's okay I used it as a boot drive, I wasnt impressed with the speeds. Eventually I went with a Samsung 970 pro. I'm much happier, I still have the SN750 I moved it to my second M.2 slot and use it for a few games I play regularly

Does the 12GB D10 drive have a sleep function? if i want to use the 12gb drive mostly as media storage for movies. Can the drive still go to sleep when not in use and if so, how long does it take to wake back up?. The reason i'm asking this is because this is a Game drive and I would suspect that a game drive would always be on and spinning, ready to load up a game. But I need it to go to sleep sometimes too. I don't want it spinning 24/7 because that limits a HDD lifespan (instead of it dying in 8 years with sleep mode, it now dies in only 4 years)

How does the 850 stack against the competitors ? Like the fire cruda 2.0 My sister is a graphic designer at western digital so hopefully can get a discount with the 850. I am using the 750 right now it’s pretty good!
