"The song of my people"? So sad I live in Nova Scotia. I've had my NA since new in 1991, but she's had to go away for the deep snow and salty road seasons. Out every summer and tucked away each winter until 2001 when my work life went to hell after my business partner jumped ship. 16 years later, I have retired after developing leukemia, the Miata has been reborn (new paint, a new tan top and new wheels) and I did a wonderful road trip round the Cabot Trail this fall. Planning another next summer if I'm around. The car has only 36,000km! - I've got to use it a whole lot more before I pass it on.

You probably already know this, considering most of my Miata knowledge came from you.... But you can add a couple extra degrees of timing at 800 rpm in MS, and the extra power will help catch the falling idle. I was having a similar 'issue' with heavy electric loads (headlights, heater, etc) and 2 degrees of timing just below idle solved my idle dip. Awesome videos and build, btw.
@TheCarPassionChannel7 жыл бұрын
+WFOinCO Yep I've got idle-advance set up with 0s delay so as it drops lower timing is immediately added. Definitely helps!
@JustKyzuuh7 жыл бұрын
Ooh good idea, I'll have to mess with this. Idle dropping seems to be a common issue.........

I love how you have really thought about every detail to try and create a car that gives you the driving experience you want. The boost, the shifting, the steering etc. In some ways, I think it is the sum of all those clever choices that will put the big smile on your face over the dyno figures....although I'm sure the dyno figures will also generate a big grin!
@TheCarPassionChannel7 жыл бұрын
+David Phasey It's what I've wanted from the first day of this build. I took all the knowledge and driving experience from the 1.6T and just kept refining what I didn't like, and improving the parts I did. The peak hp number isn't going to be a shocker, but anyone riding in the passenger seat in a canyon will truly understand my build strategy.
@fentuz7 жыл бұрын
Nice to see it coming together. I liked the fact that you chose turbo setup for what appears to be a broad torque curve rather than a narrow high torque curve at high Rpm.
@reneneron29717 жыл бұрын
Congrats, Greg. For your catch can, consider venting it using a fitting on your intake (after the air filter and before the inlet to your turn). This is always ad atmosphere or owner air pressure, and will return any blow your to the combustion chamber rather than just venting to atmosphere. When vacuum is present at higher air flow to the engine, the efficiency of the PCV system is increased relative to your current set up.
@paulmason78717 жыл бұрын

Yay! Finally get to ride in the Miata! It looks sooooo good man. Wow the shifts looks great, can even see the shift when the camera jerks a little, but man it's such a fast shift. There is no boost building at high rpm! It's already there lol Great points on why you choose that turbo. I can not wait to see the Dyno numbers! Best song yet man! Those shifts are absolutely amazing - your build quality is top notch. Note though - 7:17 the engine decelerating does not have 'momentum' in decreasing speed. All loss of rotational speed is caused by friction/pumping losses. Changing the over-run fuel cut can help with that.
@asparceproton17 жыл бұрын
Wow. EFR is the real deal. Congrats, Greg. Very glad to see she's boosting, best of luck at the dyno. I think she's gonna be just fine :)

I love your choice of turbo. I have a 2004 Mazdaspeed, and it doesn't spool that quickly! It also has the silly 6 speed that spins the engine at 4000 RPM at 80mph. I would love 300hp, and a quick spooling turbo. I too want a great street machine, not a drag racer. Sure, I'd like to dust some Mustang GT's, but more importantly I want predictable power for curvy roads. I really appreciate the research you have done and shared!

Hey now, did you just call my Golf R a highway queen? I did just put a tune on it, and turbo lag is even worse. But, first time commenting. I got sucked into this video series and it's amazing. It started with following your timing belt DIY - I have a 1991 NA6 as my project car, and thanks to channels like yours, I have the confidence to not only restore my miata, but also do all of the maintenance on my daily driver (the R). Keep up the awesome work!

TheCarPassionChannel oh, no just big turbo lots of boost. It’s always been a laggy car. It’s like driving an old skool WRX. Once the boost kicks in it’s a rocket. Just funny that you used the term highway queen. Kind of matches the description perfectly :)

That clamp on your coolant reroute will rub through your intercooler silicone pipe eventually, unless you have solid engine mounts the intercooler pipe is going to lift up and down a little under boost which will wear through it over time, spin the clamp around a little :)
@markw3657 жыл бұрын
rotate those two clamps on the coolant line where they're really close to the intake tube, they look like they can rub and cause problems down the line. Looks really good.
