Thermal R&D Exhaust Install & Review | 2015 Focus ST

At the Fabulous Fords Forever car show sponsored by Knotts Berry Farm, we were introduced to the Thermal R & D exhaust system for the Focus ST. What we liked most was that the Thermal team reportedly developed a resonance chamber to cancel out the drone associated with higher flow exhaust systems. Being a pair of guys who are obviously interested in all things Focus ST, we reached out to Thermal and they sent us one of their exhaust systems to install and review.

My first thoughts preinstallation was that I wouldn't like it, because you said that it's quiet even compared to Cobb's, especially with the oddly shaped tip. After the install, I fell in love with it. The shape of the tip really compliments the rear bumper. It's something unique, and I think it's nice that it stays quiet while cruising but opens up when you put the pedal to the floor.

I love how this looks and sounds 100%. I love dual pipe exhaust but the trapezoid shape fills it so nicely

I've known Chuck since he had his shop doing great exhaust systems in the 90's, one of the few people with a mandrel bending machine in his exhaust shop ($$$$). I have had his exhaust on my SRT-4 the best one you can get and I also believe this is the best ST exhaust you can get. I do Uber in my ST and haven't had ONE complaint about the noise, in-fact everybody likes it or doesn't even notice. It is only loud at WOT not even at part-throttle. I don't follow ST you tube channels because my views and what I enjoy doing with my car are at odds with the majority of the ST community. If you were at FF then you heard this system on my car.

+Anthony Thomas we were definitely there and heard your car. The exhaust surprised me and I fell in love with it. I completely understand why you don't follow any channels, we try and bring unique and new things to the community and challenge the normal things. Just bought a 17 ST and I have been watching a lot of your videos the last few days. It seems like you rush to get the videos out without completing them. If, in the beginning of the video, you say you are going to have a comparison in db levels, I expect to see the comparison. A couple of your other suspension videos never had an actual impression or review of the product either.

+Jason Patton we appreciate the feedback. As far as the decibel test, we had every intention of doing that portion in the video, but we may end up finishing late at night, or we have prior obligations that don’t allow us to fulfill the requirement we originally had planned. We do all have full time jobs and we film and make videos whenever possible. We did however put up a video of the decibel comparison afterwards. The suspension product reviews are all there,minus the traction bar, which it was pouring down rain and we couldn’t fully review it. And as far as tbperformanceproducts.com, I (OBrien) am a little biased and my opinion can be viewed as such. With that being said I do whole heartedly believe in TB’s products and have seen the difference. So there is your review on all those products.

Still sounds too loud for my taste. Still actively looking for a true high flow "quiet" st exhaust.

Keep in mind that I’m still running a catless downpipe. With the stock cat or a high flow cat the sound will be muffled a bit more. What I can say is that the video is misleading due to the sensitivity of the mic. (Tony)
