I have powerstop on my 2008 Dually and my wife's 2012 Ram 4x4 and I used the carbon Fiber Ceramic . On my truck I used Detroit Axle rotors drilled and slotted on my wifes I used the PowerStop drilled and slotted and red calipers all 4 wheels . They are amazing you will like the stopping power . You always make good choices. Also the Dakota is just crazy !!!

I changed my brakes for the first time after watching your videos. I’m in ma and I had to beat the snot out of my rotors to get them off lol. Must be nice to live in ca lol. Thanks for posting this video.
@DL101ca2 жыл бұрын
Easy way is to press on the brake pedal with the rotor loose (no nuts holding) before you undo the caliper bolts. It will break the bond between the hub and the rotors and make it easier to remove.

Thanks John. The caliper bracket mounting bolts require locktite on our Ram's. And have a hefty torque spec. Food good reason I guess.
@DL101ca2 жыл бұрын
Never put any, always made sure they were toyt as a toyger , never had one back out or come loose. The small caliper bolts on the other hand, they need some blue locktite as I've had them come loose and actually lost one once. You can't tighten those too much, they will strip.

Your rear brake video was very informative. Youve done a great job explaining the process. Never thought to use that slot to compress the pistons. Growing up dad showed me to use a C clamp to push them back in. Jeez what a lot of hassle. Well i guess its never too late to learn something new. Only took 40 yrs. Hahahaaha

What kind of paint did you use?
@fredschultz82673 жыл бұрын
Found it funny you mention using the recommended grease/lubricant is somewhat of a controversy. Noticed you didn't use any, LOL everyone has their little quirks. Seen ya use a pry bar/screwdriver to retract the calipers, never seen that before, always used a C-clamp but your way works in that scenario. Definitely can cut/turn those rotors, they look exactly like yours....
@DL101ca2 жыл бұрын
Nobody cuts/turns rotors anymore. It isn't worth the time to do it as the price of new ones is cheaper than what a shop will charge to do it.

thanks much.. i just needed to know if there was some kind of dealer reset procedure needed after changing pads, of if the removal of the discs is as needlessly tough as is is on my last pickup, a 2008 gmc canyon,in which you have to remove the spindle and the 4x4 axle nut to remove the spindle to get the spindle off , because the discs are bolted to the REAR of the spindles... i am on vacation on the east shore and my ram only has 17k miles on it. but on the way here, i noticed my brakes pulling to one side,and i looked thru my mag wheel spokes and my rotor is gouged, so i need to put brakes & rotors on the front.. thank goodness i carry a complete set of sockets and wrenches... looks like i just need a 21 mm socket to get the caliper bracket off to change the rotors.... i may just throw a cheap set of new pads on just to get home and replace the pads and rotors with premium ceramic ones when i get home.. i like the tip about painting the rotors.. thanks

Hey just so you know you’re supposed to cracked a bleeder when you push the pistons back in so you don’t push old fluid back through the ABS control module.
@DL101ca2 жыл бұрын
It's a good thing to do, but not a must do if your vehicle is fairly new. If you have rusted brake lines, or older car, then it would be the smart thing to do.
@sethcook99208 ай бұрын
what do you mean crack the bleeder? do you want to drain the old fluid first? im about to do mine, its a 2011
@billypoot35048 ай бұрын
No, you just open the bleeder as you’re pushing the piston back in so the fluid goes out the bleeder not back through the ABS control module. But you could change the fluid at the same time if you really wanted to.

What should I do if one of the slide pins doesn’t move at all it does not move as freely as the top.
@DL101ca2 жыл бұрын
You pull it out and clean the pin and caliper guide, all the old grease and rust if any. Use new grease and make sure the rubber boots have no tears in them allowing water in. They sell replacement pins if yours is rusted beyond use. To clean the hole, you can use a drill bit the same size and do it nice and slow not to remove any metal.
