This ended up being hella complicated. Locating the turbo underneath really exposes it to the elements and road debrix. I have a 2009 Interceptor with 150,000 miles on it and it still hauls ass. I'm a medically retired Master Auto Tec. The number of custom and street ripping cars have come and gone. But it was allways fun to chat with the customers/new friends, after the first week or so of driving the car. From clapped out Celebrities to $450.000 Convertible GT500KR's. One thing, a dream if you may, has been to take a big ol American family sedan and make a well balanced sleeper. Crown Vic's are the perfect platform in my eyes. The 4.6 is versatile, transmissions are stronger, more efficient and can be modified to great extent. Old school "LUXO BARGE" and modern tech? DUDE!!! COME ON!!! Bro high fives to all of this! LOL..... I can see a twin turbo set-up working well, with sacrificing the rear passanger area and trunk. Who needs rear seats? Heh! Snorkle set-up for the intake, thru the body and into the trunk space. Mainly for the reduction of external intake turbo whine, rain protection as well. Trunk floor modified for an exhaust that only produces a "woosh" out of the tail pipes. A seperate oiling system for the turbos. Dynamat everywhere, custom rear faux seating, carpet and fabric. The most subtle Grandpa paint job, modified steel wheels for more rubber out back and stock wheel covers. AHHHHH....what a dream. To hear a friend ask "what the hell do you need a roll cage for?" Now I wish I had the 75-100k to do it!

The "what the hell" looks and smiles when it dips into the 12's? Ya gotta keep the waste gates open for the pissed off sounding blast though. Piped out along side the tail pipes, 2 3" bazookas and 1.5" pipes neatly mounted next to them. More scratched heads. Heh! Long live Hot Rodding!

Tons of comments on here about discrepancies between factory horse power and what the car made before the turbo install. Factory is measured at the flywheel. They measured it at the rear wheels. 50-60 horse power loss through drivetrain not uncommon on a rear wheel drive car. It made 200 hp before turbo install at the rear wheels. After turbo install and tuning it made 368 at the wheels, but that’s not the real story. It made 410 lb ft of torque. Americans buy horsepower, but they drive torque. Torque is what launches that boat, horsepower is what gives you top end speed.

Should have replaced the intake manifold while you were working the front end
@captaincobb8146
@captaincobb8146 Жыл бұрын
I see you didn't change out the intake manifold. When mine failed on my 2007 P71, I replaced it with a Dorman with a higher flow rate. It gave me a noticeable increase in hp. Beings you have done so much to this P71, and beings you had her torn down most of the way anyway, I wonder; Why didn't you also upgrade the intake manifold?
@maxdm1583
@maxdm1583 Жыл бұрын
I very much doubt you gained any HP by replacing intake manifold with higher flow rate without fuel air remap. In fact you likely lost HP as you've increased volume of air and decreased pressure thus decreasing flow rate.
@captaincobb8146
@captaincobb8146 Жыл бұрын
@@maxdm1583 I don't give a rats-ass what you believe. I drove that car for three years before the intake broke, leaking coolant like crazy, and I had to replace it. As a Panther owner, I watched this with some interest. I say 'some', because I really have no intention of making a build out of it. It does its job beautifully in stock form, and I have an old Corvette to play with on the side. But, if I just had the Panther and wanted to play, I'd at least consider doing this. So let's think about it for a second. For a daily driver, it needs an intake snorkel that breathes from a safe location. Like maybe the trunk, for example. Or up in the rear fender somewhere. I don't know. You might want make a shroud for the turbo setup, to protect it from all manner of threats it will face under the car. Luckily all that stuff is just more cheap / creative fabrication. Well, cheap if you have the means to do it yourself. The turbo lag must be epic with this setup. Meaning it takes an eternity for the boost come up after you open the throttle. That's the huge, obvious downside to this installation. There is no way around it. But the power it makes is very impressive, on the dyno. In the real world, I think the lag would be the defining factor. It would suck for any type of canyon carving work. But who goes canyon carving in a Panther? A few guys do, actually, but they're weird like me, and don't count. No, this is a hooligan setup, for sure. It would be fun for half-mile and mile speed runs, I think. Don't forget to figure out how to defeat the factory 120 mph speed-limiter...

okay Im feeling kinda ignorant here. Honestly this is something I've never considered before. Doing a tail pipe turbo setup, considering the distance and turbo lag for what its worth, is this something more appropriate for hi rpm launches and highway driving than about town stop n go driving?

Putting a turbo on a used factory non turbo engine is a terrible idea unless you rebuild the entire engine or replace it with a new one with upgraded seals.

Sounds like car parts gets highly stolen in Australia. I read somewhere that Australia was settled by convicts, prison island sort of a thing. I guess it's to be expected when a place has that many convicts, anything and everything will get stolen.
