Wow, Mike. Thank you for taking the time to not only explain all that, but do all the mixing pre-work. I'm sure it is easier for you than most of us, but I still imagine it took more time to setup than the length of the video. It was also very illustrative of your point.

Best channel for mixing. 100%. This isnt clicky baity or going over the same trashy basics everyone does. These are things ive developped an ear and sense for so i kind of already get all of this but having it explained with words and technicality really helps cement the ideas

Excellent. And as you said, this really is "only" a splinter of your amazing Mixing with Mike annual Bootcamp course. I can imagine your students learn more indepth and especially practical real life things as at some real audio academies. At least I heard some voices from people with those experience saying so. Cheers

I don’t use much compression really in any of my mixes because I’m not good with it and I figure it’s better to not use it if I don’t know how. But my mixes definitely lack this depth and clarity. I should probably try to learn compression

Hi Michael, First of all thank you so much for uploading this content on youtube. It helps me alot ! And I have a question for u... Do know some good mixing monitors that you would recommend ?
@owlwoodsouth
@owlwoodsouth 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure Mike will have a great answer, but until then - I would recommend that you find something that fits your room first (if it's a small/medium size room, a 5 or 6-inch monitor will be plenty). It may be worth your time to distill your choices down to well respected monitor companies, like JBL for instance. Read some reviews. Once you've made a choice, then make it your absolute priority to get to know those monitors extremely well. Play a lot of music through them that you are extremely familiar with. Listen to how they respond to that music and really get to know what it is the monitors are doing. You may notice, for instance, that they may be brighter than you're used to hearing that music - make a note of that, and remember that your mix may sound "bright" on those monitors when in actuality it translates well to other sources. There are tons of really great monitors on the market today, and there's no reason to break the bank - but always get to know what your monitors are doing. I would also recommend getting a separate cheap pair of speakers, or a mono speaker, to switch over to while listening to a mix. It's incredibly helpful to hear from a different source, especially a consumer-level product, much like most home listeners will be using. (JBL used to make these computer/media speakers called "CREATURE" that are really great for this. They even have a subwoofer so you can judge what a home listener might be hearing on their home setup. They used to sell new for about $200, but I'm sure you can find them on ebay etc. for $50 or less.)

@@owlwoodsouth Thank you so much for your reply ! I was thinking about getting the focal 6 be I heard a lot of praise about these speakers. But i will check what JBL has to offer. And yeah your right my room isnt that big so maybe i will go with avatones as reference. But I always check my mixes on my sennheiser 650s and mosty am glad with the results. Only thing is, I need alot of breaks if i mix on them. Thats why i would like some good nearfield speakers. But thanks so much man ! Enjoy your day :D

How much money you have to spend and the size of your room are good starting points for picking speakers. It's hard to make recommendations because we all hear differently. My suggestion is to stay with the name brands and check the return policy if you are not happy with the sound.
