Hey there, director of the project. Zoda's absence was a creative decision that I felt was best to omit in the final project. His character's writing did not seem to support the kind of vision I was going for and felt it was more impactful for Ryu to find that strength within by risking his life instead of relying on the selfish and two-dimensional dialogue from the original version. I have also eliminated him from the final race scene due to the fact it adds less weight on Falcon and Black Shadow's deaths, especially when you consider he's inside the very structure as it explodes. In my canon, Zoda has already died after the events of being trapped into Black Sun in the previous episode. You can see that point referenced (as well as a bit of Zoda's voice) in the Toonami trailers uploaded prior. Hope that helps!
