As a snowboarder, and even more so when out splitboarding, bootpacking is a key part of accessing your line, and although it may seem basic - one foot in front of the other right?! There are a few things that can help you to be more efficient in your ascent.
In this episode of How To Xv I go through the basics, starting on your mellow climb, through to using your snowboard to be more efficient and save energy, as well as where and when to switch in into bootpack mode.
For more detailed explanations of how to use crampons and ice axes - which I mention in the episode, check out HOW TO USE CRAMPONS and HOW TO RIDE WITH ICE AXES.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

The champ is back! It's good to see more videos from you! Yup, you better listen to his advice: mountain skills are essential if you want to freeride or backcountry! I have devoted the last two years myself to improving my mountain skills. I climbed several alpine peaks, such as Weissmies, Lagginhorn, Gran Paradiso, Großglockner and Mont Blanc (finally!) - just to gain an alpine experience. In addition, I have been practicing sports climbing for a year in order to better handle ropes, climbing devices, and learn various climbing techniques. I also took a few mountain rescue courses (alpine / crevices / big walls) - just in case something goes wrong. All this to be able to move safely in the mountains and to be able to reach the top of more and more exciting lines to shred. I spent practically every weekend this spring backcountry in my local mountains - the best season ever! So keep learning guys and shred safely - it's all worth it 🤙 You inspire me to keep raising the bar - thanks XV, keep it up!
