As Brian progressed in his life, and even more toward the end of it, his visage took on an incredible surprising youth and softness, almost babylike. He had started over before the end.

I can never see why all the write ups of Brian at the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus describes him as being in a mess and not up to par when he plays No Expectations so well. I agree this doesn’t show him the rest of the time at this long day but he was fine for this song.

I agree. For Brian to play slide guitar on No Expectations doing, presumably, numbers of takes on the song, would have demanded more of him than playing rhythm guitar on all the rest of the songs. I’d grant he may have been in poor shape earlier on but somehow he rose to the occasion. He didn’t look very well but then again neither did Keith look great.

Maybe the other men of the Stones did not work with him anymore because of his lack doing he suppoosed to do... It is ashame he died so young, but I really think the Stones did not actieve as much as they did.. let him rest in peace..😢

In a sense when the rock and roll circus was filmed, in late 68 was when he was to have been in his darkest moments of drugs and alcohol, but if you look at him , he never looked better, almost in a glamor sense, something doesnt seem to fit here.

Absolutely. Many claim that Brian was in a terrible state due to alcohol and drugs during this time, but here he is, spreading smiles and appearing genuinely joyful. Moreover, his slide guitar resonates with such melancholy, piercing right through the heart. Something seems amiss...

❝ Did not sound remotely like that of any other musician - black, white, living or dead. In black fork culture slide playing has always spoken volumes. He must have outdone himself on “No expectations,” because the song’s story was his story, the feelings his feelings, as he could never have expressed them himself.❞ - Robert Palmer on Brian Jones’s work on Beggars Banquet

@@bootsybero Jones was slowly and horribly misshapen by all sorts of substances in his last years of life. Would take anything. In unnecessary quantities - Washed down handfuls of pills with booze at parties, because he was 'with it' - Pills he had very little clue about - and LSD was the icing on his cake. As his creative output progressively disintegrated, he was mentally and physically abusive to women, and the father of no less than 6 illegitimate children. That shit didn't wash with Anita. You know the rest. - Over time, one hears all these Jagger/Richard conspiracy stories about how they did Jones so wrong, even tales that go so far as to accuse Mick and Keith of being responsible for his death when in fact they were what kept him alive - kept him grounded - except for the night he was phucked up, went for a swim, had an asthma attack, and drowned. Wyman was the old guy on bass. That was it for him as far as being a Rolling Stone. He was around the other Stones on stage and in the studio, but otherwise not part of the scene made by Jones, Jagger and Richards.
