The writers already set up Derek and Meredith to be together from the start, even though Derek was married. Fact: people fallen in love with other people they are not married too all the time, that’s why divorces happen ( although there are other grounds for legal separation other than adultery ) - some people just drift apart and in the case of Addison and Derek, they were just treading water. They cared about each other sure, but, they didn’t love or were in love with each other anymore.

Derek was in love with merideth and told Addison that he had fallen in love with her , and Addison was needy woman from the start , if you have a problem in your marriage you stop and talk to each other she should have told Derek I’m feeling lonely and neglected we have so much time building our careers that we’ve lost sight of us so let’s stop and take time to reconnect that’s what you do not cheat with your husband /wife’s best friend you don’t do that , and Mark was really out there wrong to do that to the person that was like a brother to him that breaks lol the bro code .
