Hi Voya, Thanks for all the great reviews. You really helped me in deciding which device to buy. I am really satisfied with my Boox Note Air. I've now worked with it for three weeks. Just wanted you to inform you about a damaging risk that the device has. The original pen can be 'clicked' on the left, in the blue area next to the writing screen, in a magnetic field. For me this is really practical when making notes while working. The magnet is quite strong there. But just yesterday I found a crack in the screen in that magnetic area. So a tip would be to be careful with clicking the pen at that spot. Please continue with these great videos. BR - Rogier from the Netherlands

I just got my note air and I managed to apply the screen protector without any bubbles. Not sure if they have changed the protector that comes with it or my technique for application prevented bubbles. But I basically used tape to stick the protector in place on one side, then cleaned the screen and the plastic side (that is to be removed from the screen protector). I flipped it back on to the screen and slowly and carefully removed the plastic from the stuck down edge. Then I used the box to push the protector down from the top while sliding it across the screen and removing the plastic as I moved across. The screen protector was applied with zero bubbles. Maybe this will help somebody.

Needs to be done in a dust free environment. Of course, that should ideally be done in the factory. Since the manufacturer left it to you to figure it out, I have seen multiple comments online that say that to achieve this dust free environment at home, the best way is to fill a room with hot water vapor. The vapor drops catch the dust particles and pull them to the floor. So the air remains clean (this is why the air immediately after rain smells so clean). You can look up online what exactly people say they did. The main idea is to go to the bathroom, close the door, take a hot shower or let the hot water run until the air is steamed up, and then quickly apply the protector.

Hi Voja! Another interesting video. I never watched these kinds of reviews until recently and I am enjoying them. Even though I am on order for the Remarkable 2, what I love about the Boox Note Air, is that flip the screen around. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ambidextrous devices and also kitchen tools. I am sooo glad to see that I am not the only one who did not manage to apply the protection-foil without bubbles. That really sucks and needs to be pre-applied. It is an totally impossible task - and I know what I am talking about: I already successfully applied foil to motocycles, cars, furniture, glass-doors... nothing was as unsatisfing as doing that to boox-devices (I tried it with note2 and nova2).

Who the hell gives a downvote on a Voja video? Seriously. Anyway, very good video part 1. My comments on this part... I'm shocked that you put the OEM protector on for testing purposes. You rock. The sound with the protector on and the pen is music to the ears. No white pixel issue and no front-light bleeding are also great to hear. I love using the Remarkable 1 marker Signature pen on the Note. I feel it even feels better than the Lamy, the Noris Jumbo and the default Boox pen. Again great video. You are the best Voja.

Thank you David and thank you for your videos and tips and tricks you are doing :) This is the kind of stuff the community needs :) Lamy has a much more sensitive pressure sensitivity system, so for me to get the same "thickness" of a brush as with the rM pen, i usually have to press harder. However, I've found that setting the brush to a slightly larger size automatically leads to me not pressing as hard with Lamy and getting the same result. But you're right, there is something that I can't yet identify that makes the rM pen a bit more comfortable to use.

18:44 I remember getting a paper-like screen protector for my Palm IIIx back in the early naughties (yeah, hop in the TARDIS/Delorean with me lads, we’re going BACK) which produces the writing feel not with bumps but with tiny, tiny perforations. The upshot of that design choice was that you NEVER had bubbles, no matter how poorly applied it was. The bubbles just got squeezed right out of the screen protector’s pores. 21:42 It seems to be antialiasing the strokes after you write them. That is NICE

Now it seems that Boox is shipping the Boox Note Air with the screen protector pre-installed. So I would recommend everyone interested in buying the Note Air to avoid Amazon, Aliexpress, etc and go to the official Boox store.
@FranVarVar3 жыл бұрын
I bought one from the official EU store and turns out it did NOT have the screen protector preinstalled. It came with two screen protectors though. I mess it with one but I was able to put the second one without bubbles. My tip is apply it just at the top border of the boox, peel and stick the protector at the same time, apply pressure evenly at all points using something that is the same width than the boox (15cm or so). The cover has been redisigned, it doesn't have those two sticky bands, now it has a hard plastic thin border and the boox fits nicely into it

I don't remember exactly in which one it was, but it would be under the peripherals, or Bluetooth chapter of one of those videos. As for different diagrams and workflows, well, that's an individual thing. COMMENT ABOUT THE STYLUS: are you sure the stylus is meant to attach to the right side of the air? It really doesn't make sense for the reasons you suggested. It seems to me that it was intended to attach on the face of the air on the blue panel, where you also observed that it sticks, and much more firmly. The reason why I think this may be the actual "sticking point" is because when you store the stylus on the blue panel, the air goes into standby mode which is a nifty feature. It does not appear to go into standby mode when you connect it to the right side of the air. Thus my conclusion it is intended to go on the blue panel. My only concern is if the magnet disrupts any of the circuitry underneath the blue panel. ANY ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS?

@MyDeepGuide4 жыл бұрын
Standby mode is triggered by a small magnetic strip in the flip book cover. Any magnet, when placed over a designated area will trigger the sleep mode. As for the blue strip, not sure if it can do harm, but since it hasn't been designed for it, then it stands to reason that it wasn't tested for it, so you could get unpredictable results in the long run. Basically, you do it at your own risk.

Hi Voja. There is a Reddit post where people are talking about Boox products constantly phone their home country (China) unless you root the device. Is that true? If it is, that would pose a huge risk of IP theft especially if you use them for business.
@MyDeepGuide3 жыл бұрын
Yes I am aware of the posts and videos that test this. And yes, Boox devices ping a home server, but what data packets are sending is unknown. What is known is that those data packets are too tiny to contain any "real" data, other than device health, checking for synchronization, checking for updates, those are rather more realistic options. As for your IP, heh, well, any website you visit logs you IP address regardless of the device, basically any online activity that you do logs your IP address, so that safety side has more to do with wether you use a VPN or not, and unlike other devices, on a Boox device you can install a VPN, internet traffic manager, filters etc, which isn't possible to do easily on Remarkable or a Supernote.

Note 2 review was made before extremely substantial improvements to the OS were introduced. The platform has been significantly improved by versions n 2.3.1 and V3 improved it still. So for example, the offset distance from the tip to the writing surface has been compensated, so that it appears much better now. The same is true of Note 3. However, same negatives still stay, for me personally, for Note 3 as well. The portrait format makes it a bit too large and thick and the edges are a bit uncomfortable to use in certain situations. I prefer the design and ergonomics of the Note Air quite a bit more. However, a some people prefer the portrait format over the more boxy format of the Note Air. Note Air also has crisper image quality and much, much better quality frontlight, but the writing surface on the Note 3 is a bit more rugged, making it a tiny bit less glassy than the Note Air, and a lot less glassy than the Note 2. Lastly, i also said that as an overall device, Note 2 was an excellent device, even back then, and that definitely translates both to Note 3 and Note Air. To summarize: Note 3 doesn't supersede Note Air. Note 3 is not identical to the Note 2. So yes, there are important, small differences between all 3 models. Note 2 imo, is now obsolete, and shouldn't be considered as a buying option, unless the price is a lot cheaper than either Note Air or Note 3. My review of the Note 3 is not n the works and is coming soon (i don't have a date when yet, maybe Thursday, not sure) and there I put an accent on comparing it with the Note Air in some of the aspects.

Maybe it's because of KZbin compression, or just that the e-ink display needed a full refresh (some other artifacts from the menu are still visible), but when you did the white-pixel test (around 28 minutes or so), I thought I could see a white pixel in the upper-right quadrant... or is that something different?

That shouldn't happy with just putting your palm down. Do you have metal bracelets or something leaning against it when you set your hand down? This can cause hyper sensitivity. @@MyDeepGuide What I find disappointing is that the pen manufacturers don't treat the nibs in the same way as pencil lead is treated, i.e., sharpenable. As an artist accustomed to using many different sizes of graphite 'leads' in different sorts of 'mechanical'-type lead holders most, if not all, of the manufacturers sell special sharpening devices to accomodate the different lead thicknesses. If they were able to do so, the nib material would be in the shape of a uniform cylindrical rod. Alas.

No? Note Air is a tiny bit faster. The first contact is what you should look be looking at. Rest is just an estimation that is prone to variances much more than the first contact. Also the full line time depends on the thickness of the brush. It's more like an interesting bit of info. The one that mostly matters is the First Contact time.

Voya, please take a moment, and stop overjudging the screen protectors provided by Onyx. I saw you applying one on Nova 2 and you completely messed it up. I got the same impression as you shared in the video and remained skeptical for a long time about it. However, the process was simple and straight forward; I didn't make so many efforts to apply one on my Nova 2. Although I got one or two tiny bubbles, it is fine. And, some glare that was there has gone forever. The best way to apply a screen protector, which I learnt from a shopkeeper is to peel it off completely and let it stick to the screen rather than using something to paste it on the screen. In case there is a bubble left, you should catch that tiny grain with a sticky tape. That's it.
@MyDeepGuide4 жыл бұрын
So you weren't able to apply it 100% air bubble free either. That is the problem that i am talking about. A brand new device shouldn't have to have air bubbles on its screen. Zero of them. How would you react if a brand new device that you buy that comes with a screen protector pre applied and had 2 air bubbles? Would you say that it's fine, or would it bother you? The fact is that Boox device indeed do benefit a little bit from the screen protectors, but these need to come pre applied from the factory. Simple as that. If it's left to the users, then they can mess it up, depending on their level of experience, how many tricks they know etc. All of that is completely ridiculous to even talk about when we have devices at this price point.

Yes, but it's like comparing apples and oranges. Would have gotten it over rM2 if the pen was better, latency wasn't worse, didn't have more distance from the ink to pen, had the rubber pads, didn't come with a screen protector (as if it's very important to use), didn't have more glare, official cover wasn't crap, battery was better AND had a free return/refund policy. So even if I got it, I'd HAVE to pay for a pen and cover, which would make it more than the pre-order price of rM2. And price was already crazy to me. Might as well get an iPad at that point. Also I don't need all the fancy stuff, even the light might be bad for me, though the OS is still much better than rM2. I think you should have mainly used the pen it came with for the review, and then mention the rM2 pen instead. It seems like you changed your mind about latency then, rM2 just barely went over the line of feeling like actual writing, worse than that shouldn't be something you don't care about when you cared so much about it with rM2. Just a bit confused.
