Certainly getting the 'crackle' and penetration of the weld. A tip would be to 'push the weld' along with a stiring motion, you'll get a smoother and deeper penetration of the weld bead as a result. Definately dress the welds back with a flat wheel on a grinder and hit it with some weld through etch primer soon as you're done before any rust forms. With thicker plate (3mm or thicker) you may have to bevel the edges to create a 'V' channel that you can fill up with weld, by doing this should allow you to get max penetration. Gas choice can make thing easier as CO2 can make it a bit tricker to get decent welds where as Argon will give usually pretty decent welds. Of note with PPE, DO invest in some thick welding jackets and chaps unless you fancy getting burnt from sparks, better to be hot and sweaty than down A&E with a weld burn. Just a few tips from a mechanical engineer and former techie.
@HomeBuilt693 жыл бұрын
Weld look fine plenty of penetration they won’t go anywhere, I will say next time cover up any glass and paint it only takes one spit to hit your windscreen and will smash as well the sparks melting onto your paint and rusting. Love your channel keep it up and hope to see the e36 around Gloucestershire soon 👍🏻

This is a whole new era. Watching the webisodes back however many years ago, I never would've thought I'd witness you become a fabricator lol, but I'm here for it! Also happy birthday in advance.
@ryangaffney43573 жыл бұрын
Hi I’m a welder fabricator and them welds are decent but you needed to turn your heat up on the welder or instead of turning the heat up turn the wire speed down and go slower because your getting what’s called a spine effect which is where it bunches in the middle of the weld but other than that there good welds

With MIG welding you should be pushing your weld into the material and not dragging, if you was to be using flux cored wire then you'd be fine, I'm a welder by trade but it's all about practice and learning your welding set ✌

Hey boys. Big fan of everything you're doing. I've bought myself an old Honda CR-V for my winter work commute with the intention of lifting it and putting big fat wheels on. The issue is that I love it but I'm not in love with it. Certainly not like I am with my MX5 and my dad's remapped E280 CDI (sentiment and power). The CR-V is quirky as... rear seats that slide back, forward, and recline, the boot floor is a pull-out fold-out picnic table 👌 I'm just hankering for an old Volvo or something to put a smile on my face. What do you fancy swapping? 🤔

@boqer123 those extension plates that you welded on the subframe, where are they from? The ones in Adamat kit are different, consisting of multiple pieces that you need to weld instead of the bent profile that yours had. Also, can you coment on the exhaust manifolds, are they E38 ones or X5 ones?
