Tractor Talk & Tool Tales!
In this video, we quickly look at and install Bora's new double p-tops for the Centipede portable workbench.
These p-tops are essential if you want to anchor down your inside middle Bora work surfaces. Without them, you can only lock down one side.
Without fully locking down the work surfaces, you end up with a lot of table end movement. This is especially annoying when you're working with large and heavy objects and you bump the table ends with your body.
You don't need to replace all the p-tops. Just the ones on the outside middle of your 4x4 (CK9S), 4x6 (CK12S ) or 4x8 (CK15S) Bora Centipede. In my opinion, it's mostly needed on the 4x6 and 4x8 models.

I have the exact same Bora and because of your recommendation I just upgraded it with the double p-tops exactly like you did. However I started with only the one top and I've decided that just doesn't meet my needs so I am buying two more. They are *not* inexpensive and many people would choose to do something else, but I'm paying for the break-down-and-stow-away capability since I work in a crowded home garage. I can still make more money, but I can't make more time or more space. Not saying your advice is incorrect, just that different people have different needs and different budgets for money/space/time. For cutting a sheet of plywood I lay some foam insulation board on top of the bare leg assembly to support the plywood; it works perfectly and the pieces of foam insulation board fit in the sheet goods portion of my scrap cart. Many thanks for calling out the double p-tops, they are exactly what I needed.

Thanks for that demo. I'll definitely be purchasing a few sets of these. I also have the 4x6 as well as a 2x4. I go back and forth on using the bora tops depending on if im at home in the shop or on a jobsite. Sometimes im doing grimy, greasy work and then its just plywood. The best solution i found for treating the bora tops was a spray can of exterior varnish. A light coat made them water tight. I then added a quick coat of paste wax i use on all my power tools and benchtops. Thanks again Chris

You’re welcome. I appreciate your well thought out comment. I’m still using the Bora tops as they are so easy to store when not in use.

I originally bought the CT12 Bora table for its ability to stow away in a garage and for its use as a router sled table. I originally bought a sheet of plywood and placed it directly on top of the table. I then added linear rails and a router sled. It worked, but the plywood would bow too much. Maybe a thicker piece around 3/4" would have been better. Since the table was fairly large, I could use it for other projects, but it tended to vibrate a lot when attempting to cut through items that were clamped to the table. Now, I just bought a Bora T-Track tabletop, and I am curious to see if this will be the best option to keep the table from shaking. Unfortunately, their prices for the T-Track table top are insane so I settled on an Amazon return for $50 off.

Good Info thanks. I just put some extensions on my 4x4 and one thing I found out is if you put the nut in th socket then tilt the socket up and put it in the end piece then put it on the centipede it goes one with ease and you don't have to deal with the frustration.

That’s a great tip! I tried that but it didn’t work on the Milwaukee socket I was using. They’re super deep where the nut sits. It would have probably worked with my Capri sockets though.

@@DemoDad101 I've got a miss match group of tool I've inherited through the year so I'm not sure which brand I was using. I know I was using a 19mm. On your tip I've order some of the twin packs for my table. Thanks

Get yourself a pair of TRACKTUBES and their Centipede Knob Kit .. then either buy the TRACKTOP or make your own top. I use my Centipede quite a bit, but hated the BORA Top!

And I usually just use a 2x4 piece of particle board like you said. I split my 4x8 into a 2x4 and a 4x4. The 4x4 is big enough to process plywood and the 2x4 is more portable

I’ll probably be switching to a sheet of plywood. Although, the Bora tops are much easier to store.

Check out some of the dog hole uses. I think you may change your mind about ditching the current top.
