The most alarming thing for me is seeing ARMYs sending hundreds of dollars worth of merch to reaction YTers who probably don't even listen to BTS off camera. If you want to be generous, give your gifts to real Armys. Not reactors who can't even remember the titles of the songs they've listened to.

Agree 100%. These reactors are already in our space, making money from reactions to BTS. ARMYs are making it way too easy for them to insert themselves in the fandom without actually having to do much. I'm not saying making reactions can't be work, because of course it can be, but a lot of these reactors make A LOT of money through patreon, etc. and they don't pay anything back to the artist. Instead, you have ARMYs out here just sending them everything. It shouldn't be like that. If these reactors are genuine ARMYs they would buy their own merch and CDs, just like everyone else does.

For those who are trying to discourage armys not to stream, this video is for ARMYs. Not for casual listeners but for people who support group music and all of the members solo music. It's simple as that. And there are people who are saying since they are big now, we don't need to work hard for them like before. No. If you are saying things like this, I think you don't know how the industry works. BTS don't have playlisting, radio and payola deals. (Jimin songs sales deleted by billboard in billboard top 100 chart and yoongi song don't make it in top 10 of global 200 despite having more streams than the other song in top 10) . It depends on Armys a lot. If you don't even stream and vote for your favs, who will? Besides, there is no limit what bts can do. If you want to give them longevity, pls support them. Buy their albums. If you can't buy you can still stream and vote.Anyway, Take two is coming in a hour!

@@Bosslady-iu6nc Hello. I won't judge or try to determine who is "true ARMY." I also enjoy some reaction channels - those who provide some type of additional insight or expertise in particular aspects of a BTS mv or live performance. For example, it adds to my perspective to hear professional dancers speak to the level of difficulty in BTS choreography or confirms how much practice is required to make their performances synchronized, artful, engaging. There are other reaction channels that acknowledge the high regard and knowledge BTS possesses of specific genres. There are cultural channels that can describe the layers and rich nuances of the Korean language. It is evident that the videoessays created by boracity magazine take time and deep research. It provides insight into the music and media industries. It has a clear point of view with a perspective through a genuine and conscientious ARMY lens. This channel also gives clear reasoning for why particular channels are harmful and are a disservice to not only the artists we love and support, but to ARMY, too. Like obviously if someone wants to react to kpop that's fine, but I'm always a little disappointed when someone seems genuinely interested in BTS and then they just use army clout to turn into a kpop reaction channel. And I'm really sorry, but a lot of armys on youtube are really, really dumb. TikTok too. The amount of misinformation I see shared in comments and videos and armys just eating it up is crazy. Like the fake reactions, shipping vids, fake mistreatment vids and those pushing solo and manti agendas, or even something as simple as a fake teaser that'll get MILLIONS of views while all you have to do is check the channel and see it's not theirs. As a fandom we have a responsibility to use more critical thinking.

9:04 I love how you used this channel as an example, he's one of the most genuine reactors I've seen. I love how he listened to on the street without knowing who hobi is, remained respectful and then immediately listened to some of hobi's solo songs right after, in the same video. That's the opposite of what these other channels are doing. He's kept making BTS videos, and I love how he's actually taking time to learn everything there is to know about the guys and their story. Another huge green flag is that though he's reacted to other kpop groups, he's continued to mainly react to BTS (among other non-kpop things), which means he's extremely unlikely to be reacting just for clout. He even said openly that he didn't really like a certain other really popular group, because they didn't have a message the same way BTS does, and then stopped reacting to them despite all the views he could have gotten from faking interest. My personal opinion is that his videos are not at all clickbait, instead it seems like he's just a genuine funny guy discovering BTS, who happens to be uploading his journey to youtube. Anyway yeah, I was really happy to see him as an example of a good reaction channel :) Keep up the good work, I've been following your videos basically since the first one, and you never miss! :D

Some armys have been nice to point out some of the channels they feel are genuine. For me personally, Mexinese Family really feels genuine. I've watched them turn into real armys over the years and unlike most channels they strictly react to BTS only! They put a lot of effort into their videos be it their little skits or celebrating member's birthday by doing something inspired by them. They're really kind and take feedbacks positively. I also feel like they have built a healthy community among their watchers! Above all, they truly respect and appreciate bts! This is just my opinion. I hope armys remain mindful while consuming content in here!

I agree, Mexinese are pretty cool. They're doing it to entertain and they don't pretend otherwise; they have a lot of fun; they're well-informed, and most importantly, they don't clickbait. I like the WatchaGotToSay guys myself, they're very genuine- also very crackheaded, but they take the serious stuff seriously, and their lyric interpretations are interesting. And they always wait the first 24 hours out before reacting to something new, which even a lot of genuine reactors don't. They have branched out to Patreon, but that's because YT keeps messing with their channel. Anthony Ray was a really excellent reactor and he did go genuinely down the rabbit hole. It was fascinating to watch him lighten up from his 'dark and grim rapper' mode to 'buoyant and fun-loving ARMY', but he became more and more about the monetization and Patreon and drifted away from BTS. Pity, he was remarkably observant. Never seen a reactor stop a video to check out and identify what shoes an idol was wearing before...

For the people who are a bit afraid of Twitter because of the toxicity, I would encourage you to at least follow big accounts who tweet about charts, votes, updates and who translate. By following those accounts you will be able to be updated about pretty much everything while not having to interact much with others. Avoid following accounts who focus on only one member (even if they claim to be ot7) because they're usually followed by a lot of solo stans who are very toxic (run away from those people). And for the people who would like to have the full Twitter experience (I promise it's not as bad as people think) I would advice you to follow big ot7 accounts at first to understand how Twitter works and then start following other people. To avoid toxicity, the best is to be careful of who you follow. You have to make sure to not follow any solo stan, people who engage in fanwars, etc. If you see anyone who is toxic you just block (+report) and don't engage and then Twitter starts to become actually very fun!
translation accounts especially literally help so much when the both goes live and anything to calm down the 'speak english' people

Talk about it !!! Its the call out for me! I started off my Bangtan Journey on KZbin and I liked reaction channels because it felt like I was watching content for the first time with someone else who was watching it for the first time. I then had to quickly realize that I need to watch original content and not just edited videos and so I did that on my own and found how crazy edited and manipulated content could be when it comes to BTS. The fandom is not a monolith and people think so differently. I never got into a musical act as hard as I have than with BTS so I learned fandom culture real quick and it was jarring how much hate there was surrounding a group that is the literal definition of LIGHT and GRACE. Youtubing was a learning experience. When I became a full fledged fan I still watched reactions because I like commenting about theories from the past that I couldnt do during that particular era since I wasnt a fan then. I liked sharing BTS with people who are genuine but its rare to find people who are like that on here. I just want them to love BTS and see how special they are and take what they want from the performance. Some look at the dance portion and some focus on the musicality and some love the relationships of the guys as I do BUT some people just learn to OOH and AHH at the right times so they can get clicks. We just have to individually be smart about who we give our attention to and once I start seeing red flags I am gone. I have clicked "Not Interesting" and "Dont show me this channel" so much in recent times. ORIGINAL BANGTAN CONTENT always first....then when you watch anything else, funny or fun videos from fans, you will know whats real or not. You will have context. As much as twitter is a crazy space and a half , you were right when you said its organized and there is information there that is needed. OH and the beauty that is the block, mute and report buttons, like you can curate a nice timeline, follow positive people and interact how you would like. YT doesnt have that much option and the algorithm is a mess and people do what they want here with no real consequence because its not as quick as twitter is. People get misinformed on here so much and twt is just full of people with knowledge and index of info and a willingness to provide you with links and sources to real information. Learned alot from armytwt ...like dont loop a song which is crazy because I am the person who loves hitting the replay button ...insanity I am going through my FESTA discography tour and liking all songs I havent when I started my journey and writing a comment. I think we should all do this but I am probably the only one who forgets to like a song but I had no idea that it helped the algorithm so much, so anything I can do to help. This video was informative. Thank you. Sorry for the long comment. I am bad at commenting lol

My YT library is full of curated playlists that give me access to full eps of Run BTS, explanations of the BU, BTS history, etc. And I was able to take all of that content and create a "new fan homework" playlist for a friend who knew nothing about BTS until she attended Suga's show with me. She's been slowly working through it and it makes me happy to see how quickly she's getting drawn in with both their music and their crackhead energy. There is a lot of trash on YT but, if you dig hard enough, you'll eventually come across treasures. Also, I was just as stumped by the looping nonsense. Why the hell can't we just hit repeat and have it count?

I follow Mexinese Family since December 2018 in their first react to idol MV. I always felt and today I feel how genuine they are and I followed their journey of discovery and becoming an Army. It's the only channel I've faithfully followed since then, because I know they're sensitive to the boys' message and I know they're true to what they say, because I follow them beyond KZbin. They are always listening and enjoying BTS songs for real. And they also have fun being army which is what it has to be. So I'm very happy to meet a channel of people who share the same love and admiration for the boys. I am happy to have my army journey shared with other armys who also had their lives changed by BTS. So, just speaking openly from my own viewpoint. I genuinely enjoy reaction channels, like supporting them, and used to be subscribed to a few patreon channels. But then after a while I started to ask myself why am I paying to watch someone watch something that my precious hardworking BTS has given me for free from their no-status days to their mega-status days. On top of the crazy amount of BTS merch that are sent to some channels who don’t even know what half the merch really are and wouldn’t truly love and cherish it like an actual Army. Then it just didn’t make any sense or sit well with me AT ALL and I’ve since unsubscribed to all patreon channels. I do see some channels that actually spend their money to fight for merch, tickets, etc. like an actual Army. Those are the only channels I watch now. Army gets taken advantage of way too much because our hearts are similar to BTS but like Boracity says, I, as an Army, have become a much more tougher audience. Kind but tough 💜

Thank you, once again, for your articulate and considered video essay! I have watched a lot of reactors and ultimately wind up subscribing to only a few. Sometimes, it makes me sad to unfollow a creator, but once they start saying things like, "help me do this for a living, I want to quit my job and react full time, etc." I just cant. I have also unsubscribed from channels where it's clear the reactor is allowing ARMY to do all the work and doesn't want to do their own exploration. I will almost never return to a channel where someone says, "I could go look this up, but I prefer to hear what you think/want/recommend." There are also reactors with communities where a segment of ARMY feels the need to dictate how a person should listen to BTS. I've left discussion boards where I get slammed for posting the wrong thing on the wrong day with the wrong whatever. I'm still looking for my BTS tribe, and I guess the amazing thing about this fandom is that I know they're out there, so I'll keep looking. Appreciate you making and sharing this video! I’ve been ARMY for 3 years now, and I’ve interacted with a few of the channels mentioned here. I watch xCelestex and WhatchaGot2Say. I really enjoy their content, and know that they’re genuine fans, and shame the guys’ message. I did watch Dave Disci when I was first learning about BTS, but stopped shortly after noticing all of the clickbait. Trash content, and YT recommends so much of it. I came across the misogynist’s channel because it was recommended, and could tell that he wasn’t it. He turned out to be worse than I thought. I’m always getting recommendations on the homepage for BTS reactors, and I constantly have to get rid of them. I hate the “First Time Reacting” or insert whatever description titles, and the goofy faces in the thumbnails turn me off. There’s nothing genuine about them, and it’s about the views, not the music or the message. It’s pretty sad that so many people are profiting from content that has no value, and they’re not even trying to polish it up. It’s just lackluster…

I've been a consumer of BTS reactions for years because it brings me joy to find someone, once in a blue moon, who's actually genuine. But I've seen it too many times, reactors who watch BTS for the very first time, are extremely racist and make dumb comments about makeup, clothes, gender or sexuality, when they get backlash, they delete the video and do another reaction to the same MV, pretending it's their first time watching it, but this time being "open-minded", dancing and yelling "I am so ready to join the army". Anyone who calls ARMY "the army" and claims they're going to join it after one song makes me cringe to no end. They don't research anything beforehand, they're shocked to see BTS has seven members or that they're Korean, they always say "tell me in the comments" like they are allergic to Google, they don't make an effort to read the subtitles, they ask questions that were already answered in the video they're watching. They forget everything they've seen as soon as the reaction ends, but they never forget to tell me to go to their Patreon for exclusive content. These people are a complete mess. @exquis_ Жыл бұрын
@@bluchismoon i'm not saying they plagiarized. I mean, everyone involved is korean so if they get the references they will be the same or similar explanations (but i still think muish is a better explainer even in written format!). What i'm saying is that David (a fan) and Danny (a non fan) made their popularity on army youtube spaces by doing videos over something that already existed on army spaces blogs or twitter threads but they made it in a more visible way which contributed for their popularity. Most bts fans are anons online, they share their knowledge because it makes them happy to other fans but these content creators present the same information (that they see it online, find a niche by looking around) because they want to get a economical advantage from us. It makes me sad when fans overlook fans on twt or other fandom spaces that dedicate their personal time for fans and then seeing youtubers taking their ideas or thoughts and get money over it. Most reactors fall into this lane so i hope you get the sentiment of what i'm saying. Why do people assume these people are better fans that us regular ones just because they share their visible face to all?

I thought this video was a useful reminder about where we should put our time and effort in supporting BTS, particularly with streaming. My only issue is that since the video was posted, I’ve noticed a sharp increase of really negative and sometimes nasty comments on a number of of reactor’s channels. It doesn’t represent Army well, and it’s not behaviour that I associate BTS with. By all means, people can unsubscribe from a reactor’s channel, but surely that can be done without making people feel bad.

As many have mentioned, I applaud you for making this video essay. For those Army who have been around for awhile, some or all of the issues that you addressed was known but haven't taken this extra step to do all the proper research and taken the action to call out these problematic channels. I am guilty of that. I knew about the drama channels and the "farming"channels like those 4 guys who have multiple channels (4 different channels, 3 of which you highlighted) - and they aren't the only ones. I've taken steps to put those channels under "do not recommend channel" list for myself but you have created this public post to help other people. Thank you so much for that. It reflects your passion and love for BTS and what they stand for. You have a real gift in journalism, which unfortunately is a dying field. It's sickening actually. MCN and Dave Disci channel. They are the worse.
@michellem6826 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for making the video. I agree with much of what you said. I just have a few additional thoughts. When I became an ARMY in 2019 I rarely used social media. I find it mostly toxic and problematic. For BTS I started to use KZbin. I tried Twitter and TikTok briefly and found it confusing and frustrating. I was one of those new ARMYs that fell for every click bait and misinformation channel. It took me over a year to get some things figured out. I think a lot of new ARMYs are just like I was. Unfortunately, there isn’t a sign that helps new ARMYs and there is so much content to weed through. Next, I like reaction channels that are funny, thoughtful and add to my understanding of BTS content such as explaining a dance move or how the instruments are used to create an affect. However, I also use a reaction channel that is established to get new BTS ARMYs. I interact with reactors subscribers to see if I can get them to try BTS music. I go to more serious channels to see what is being said about BTS and leave positive comments so they will cover more BTS and their audience might give BTS a try. When NPR did Tiny Desk with BTS I left lots of comments and even donated money to NPR. For hosting BTS and NPR did an interview about BTS and the fandom. I am saying all this to say that you may want to consider there are other ways to spread the magic of BTS. Again, I agree with much of what you said and I feel for new ARMYs that get played.

As a Baby Army of little over a year. I got the shipping videos really fast on my TL and watched a few of them. For me personally they were pretty harmless, cause I used to it by books, tv and anime fandom culture. And it just showed that they actually care for each other and I got to interested in all different pairings. I can separate reality from wishful over-interpretations. BUT I never read the comments, so I didn't know about how serious shippers can be. With fictional characters there is no harm done. But this is a first time for me with real life people and I realized the shippers are everywhere. Even in the chat of the members Lives. And I just cant comprehend what they get out of it? Like someday BTS will say "Yeah, you spammed enough Taekook comments, now we announce their wedding"?? What is the end goal?? And BTS might at best think this is funny and arent bothered about this. At worst they feel pressed to act in certain ways or keep silent about certain topics.

THANK YOU! Finally, someone said it. People address everything related to Kpop EXCEPT Toxic Shippers. It is mainly Western casual fans that care more about ships than the actual group and their music. They have no problem with disrespecting idols by labeling them "Boyfriends" no matter how many times they refer to each other as "Family" and "Brothers". One Direction fans ruined Harry and Louis's friendship with the same extreme behavior and unfortunately, I believe many of them have become Kpop fans and have polluted K-pop fandoms with their crazy behavior. They are the reason I left Twitter, they post vile fan "Art", call the members "Boyfriends" and call their affection towards each other "Gay" because they are ignorant and never bothered educating themselves about Korean skinship culture. Koreans are affectionate from a very young age, the same way they interact on stage is how they interacted in elementary school. They never got labeled for it until uncultured Western people started paying attention and acting like wannabe detectives.

Nah you tripping lol. I conscious enough to separate real life from my own fantasies and I definitely prefer catching a moment in the original content than having the damn manipulated edits that are overly focused on that moment alone and making a whole essay about it ...If I see a moment of my ship in the run BTS content I get excited...the move on lol, don't get stuck in it. The shipping world it's a space that should definitely be hidden, you DO NOT bring it to other ppl like that easily unless they are also shippers (healthy ones oc) and specially you DO NOT bring them up to the idols themselves my god wtf, pushing your narrative on anything if delusional and effing annoying. So yeah I think I pretty much take shipping as a fictional thing, and that world is one that you gotta go in on your own and not force anyone to go in at all. Idk how the other do ...but omg pls yes delete these analysing videos they're ridiculous 😂😅

Some ARMYs refuse to believe they are LGBTQ+ supporters. They have said they are, but those that disagree with it will swear up and down that BTS aren't supporters. It is okay to disagree with an opinion they have. It is not okay to insult them over it. And it is not okay to call a channel toxic because they have a different opinion than you or one of the members. It is okay for us to think differently than eachother, it is actually a good thing. If you don't respect different opinions you might end up making content dissing a bunch of creators that aren't actually bad people. ..
