Just a quick look at the piece of gear that has taken me from the trees to the ground; the Borah big bivy. It’s simple, functional, and has made setting up camp so much easier.

Wow! Can't beat the weight. You are a tougher man than me to be able to sleep on that thin pad. My buddy Jordon has been looking at these Borah bivys. I'll send him a link to your vid.

The weight and versatility make it a spectacular piece of gear! And I’m not sure it’s so much in being tougher as it is acclimation hahaha! Hope the video helps give Jordan a little insight to the bivy.

Thanks! I will attest that I’m still loving it and after a weekend of using my hammock again, I really appreciate the simplicity of the bug bivy.

Zpacks pillow works great. Multi use as well.. I just went from ground to hammock.

This is a really good call. I don’t always have enough extra clothes to stuff it to my comfort, which would be my only concern. Big fan of the multi use though. What hammock are you rocking? I still use the hammock from time to time, especially on river trips where it makes finding camp much easier.

When I was a kid we used those mesh hammocks from Kmart @ $3.95 plus tax. In 06 I got a Hennessy ul Explorer, but after a few years of that I started hiking with a dog and a tent made more sense. I’ve got Warbonnet hammocks and accessories, not because I did not like the other choices like Dream Hammock, but because it was a lot easier to order. I’m just West of Knoxville, TN. My son in law is my hiking, bikepacking partner for most my current adventures. He is out in Sweetwater.

I started out with the Hennessy hammock myself. Bought the Asym zip as soon as it came out. That Warbonnet makes some mighty fine gear. That’s my favorite (and also least favorite) thing about hammocks; so many choices and accessories!

Hey man! Thx for the vid. I'm probably gonna get one of these for this season. I'm curious how tall you are? I'm gonna get a wide for sure, but I'm deciding between a normal or long. I'm just under 6". Thanks!

Medical records say 5’11.5”. I mean, I’ll take that half inch, but let’s just say 5’11” 😆 You should be perfectly fine with the normal length.

Do you think this would work as dual purpose bug net for sleeping in a hammock as well as the ground?
@tennesseetrekker1951

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. But it would be an incredible pain in the rear getting in and out of in the hammock. As awesome as the dual purpose would be, I think most people would be over it after one night in the hammock.

No ground sheet? I'm seriously considering this for the desert section of the PCT this year (and switch to hammock when possible).

I do usually take a piece of Tyvek. Mostly because I want that extra layer of moisture protection for when it rains (and it loves to rain on me). Nice thing about the Tyvek, or sheet of polycro, is it makes for a nice floor mat when you switch over to the hammock.
