Discussion: Borat subsequent movie - Comedy or incitement for racism?
Dear friends, Kazakh communities in the West are small, however, we are very proud of our heritage, culture, and history. As an ethnic group, we are coming out of a colonial past and building back our nearly erased identity. The very reason why #SachaBaronCohen used our country as a subject in his comedies #Borat and #Borat2 is because our indigenous culture is still an enigma to the Western world.
In this discussion Kazakh professionals from different parts of the world will share with you why these films promote violence against our people and especially children.

Ohmygod, the discussion is almost too painful to watch. I don't understand why some westerners in every social media platform keep saying that Kazakhs are overreacting and such. Why not stop doing whatever it is that makes a whole nation uncomfortable (to say the least). They keep saying that the movies are to poke fun on how ignorant Americans are but at the same time they invalidate the voice of the people whose name is being used even though Kazakhs have given their reasons why the movies are not good for the name of the whole country. What good is a joke if it's on some people's expense and they're not even laughing with you? I'm so sorry that it has to happen again.

@@HollywoodFilmAcademy I truly feel your pain. Such beautiful country and lovely people but many associate them with damaging and false portrayal because of "harmless" comedy (sarcasm here). I don't think the movies would have sparked people's curiosity about the real Kazakhstan and its people if Kazakhs did not voice their concerns against the movies.

Thank you, to all participants for this eye opener. I spent over 3 weeks in Kazakhstan with my daughter in remote areas mostly, and fell in LOVE with its lovely people, delicious food, divine ecosystems and culture. This visit was inspired thanks to DIMASH KUDAIBERGEN, who we also saw in Concert in Astana. A few days ago, MTV posted they were so happy to see Borat again. I was incensed. And informed MTV that his films were extremely offensive to Kazakh people. I fully support your movement for a wonderful country, my #58 in my list of visited countries, and easily one of the most SUPERB I've seen ❤ Kazakhstan Alga 🇵🇼✊

Another thing that hits me, besides of insulting and humiliating portraying of Kazakhstan and Kazakh people, is how bad is education in US schools: kids don't even know major world's countries: after all Kazakhstan is 9th largest country in the world!

Yes the education can be improved, however Kazakhstan should create much bigger public awareness of their true culture, people, history etc. That way clowns like Borat won’t hurt Kazakh people. Thank you for your support ✊🏻🇰🇿❤️

It takes a lot more positive efforts than a bad one to correct people’s mis-impression. Dimash’s influence is not enough, and even it is Amazon should not stream such a distorting and bad-intentioned movie.

Heater's mouvies or Films that disqualify any culture, country or religious belief, should be prohibited, as they only hurt the legitimacy and respect that as a country, ethnic group or culture, all human beings deserve. It is incredible that after such a difficult year with a pandemic that revealed the beautiful possibility of knowing how to be in solidarity and support to each other regardless the Country, it occurs to some unconscious team of producers, directors and actors, to film this type of crap, a film that insults the dignity and identity of the great Kazakh People. My solidarity with Kazakhstan and its beautiful people. 🇰🇿🌺❤️
