I think the Border tune heard here is called Keltic Prelude March composed by L.E. DeFrancesco. I visited the Border region in 1969 and 1970 and watched the start up sequence a few times. I remember there were three fairly short tunes, this one being the final one. The website of the Test Card Circle has a list of start up music for most of the ITV stations and has the titles of Border's other two tunes as well. Do you happen to have a recording of the other tunes by any chance?

I like the Keltic Prelude March, it has a distinctly Scottish feel about it.

This music brings back extremely vivid memories of being forced with 15 or so other children to sit down in a "semi circle" (I still hate that term even today!) at St Mary's RC junior school Whitehaven, in the late sixties in front of a large light brown wooden cabineted TV on a huge 4 legged stand that seemed to be ten feet tall at the time! which also had three large black screen visors to shut out the sunlight! I recall it being all for a programme called "Science Today" with Fergus O'kelly. Oh! the sheer blind terrors that were 'Miss Mulholand' and "Sister Hermanguild" will live with me forever!
