My personal headcannon for the reason why everyone on Pandora is insane and willing to die all the time: i think they have been using the new-u stations that the player does and every time they expirience death and respawn it makes them more and more crazy each time. It has also been confirmed in a few BO2 missions that some enemies can afford to use the respawn station and do actually use it.

Like when Jack pays you to jump into the volcano and laughs at you when you respawn. They are also mentioned a few times in tales from the borderlands. So like sure they say "that's not Canon" to protect themselves from criticism about plot holes. But the way they wrote the games and stories it also makes a ton of sense that they are Canon and do indeed exist within the world. Even the new u station itself has hundreds of voice lines alluding to how they work. Like a game could have respawn mechanics without the new u station like almost every other game does.

All I'm saying is that the New-u stations are clearly written to be somewhat cannon. If it wasn't meant to be cannon, then they wouldn't have spent so much time on it. I think the devs are just coping because they wrote something into the story that introduces some plot holes.

That is Krieg. He is the Physco pc choice in borderlands two. The lore behind him is he was a lone scavenger wandering around, until he was captured and experimented on which lead to his Physco side taking his body and his normal side taking his mind, his mind cannot control what the physco side says, which is why his inner thoughts were saying not to scream poop, when his body did. Maya, the siren girl in the beginning, is what manages to help Krieg control both sides.
