I do a lot of console repair/refurbishing and these kinds of projects are honestly my most satisfying to complete. Just a good old full teardown and clean. It's especially satisfying with transparent controllers. Great job!

The gamecube is one of my favorite consoles. Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros so many great games on it. Now get some of those new fancy insurrection industries component cables for it. lol
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
Lol, composite still has its charm :) I play GameCube games on a modded Wii honestly. Just easier over component cables + SD card for casual play but I do intend to take this out for nostalgia once in a while.

I don’t want to come down too hard on anyone, but even back when I was a dumb little 8 year old playing SNES or a dumb teenager playing PlayStation and N64, I never spilled food or drink directly on my consoles (nor did any of my friends). The worst I probably did was get a controller a little greasy but we’d always wipe them down if that happened.

Same, blows my mind. I know all kids are different, but I just don't get it. Even at 5 years old, I knew not to set a can of soda near my NES or other electronics.

wouldn't be surprised if a younger or older sibling spilled something over it on purpose

Thanks for the video. There's another KZbinr who suggests 2mm pads for the CPU. His video is titled Nintendo GameCube Teardown and Thermal Pad Replacement [ep. 98], and his channel is The SegaHolic. I trust yours more as you're actually measuring, but I'm curious if you've seen his video and your thoughts. His measuring is at 5:41 in the video and cruder than yours, but he doesn't necessarily seem off much either.

Excellent video. Really enjoyed it. You only skipped how you clean the fan.
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
You are extremely observant sir. I drove myself crazy trying to get the footage down to a 10 minute video. In the end, I decided to toss out the fan footage because its just a rubbing alcohol cleaning and thought no one would care. But now that I know you care, I will never forgive myself!!! I have let you down, and I will never skip something like that again :D :D

@@BorderlineOCD The length of the video is just perfect. Very informative, especially the part with the chips and thermal pads. I like your style, looks very professional and precise. Keep the good work going and I hope the best for your channel.

I don't think someone dropped something sticky on this GameCube, I think someone dropped this GameCube into a vat of something sticky. 🤢

Well Borderline OCD pretty cool restoration on the GameCube but yours is a Model 2 the way you can tell it that it doesn't have the digital AV out port on the back like a Model 1 GameCube would have loved the GameCube lot of good games on it

7:59 Interesting. There are three of these gold items on my DOL-001, whereas in here (DOL-101) you only install two :P

You probably have an extra circuit board in that area too. Early models have an additional power supply/regulator which was integrated into the motherboard in later revisions.

Does it damage the console when the battery is low/empty in any bad way? If it's just the clock that's not working i wouldn't care, but maybe i should change it to prevent serious damage?
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
Naa it’s just for keeping the date and time when your GC isn’t connected to power. If it’s not bothering you then you can leave it alone.
@Saberwaisen2 жыл бұрын
I think Animal Crossing makes use of the clock so a dead battery can hinder your enjoyment of the game.

It looks like some dumbass spilled coke on it but i do have a gamecube that needs some work done on it but im honestly just worried about giving it peroxide to remove the brown discoloration as the front and mostly the back is really discolored and its supposed to be purple but im not sure if peroxide will turn the entire thing white instead of removing the brown

Would suggest to practice retrobrighting on something you don't mind messing up first, before doing it on a unit you care about. It's temping when you see the fantastic results others have achieved but it's not a forgiving process and theres a very good risk of blotching (uneven results), going to far (whiter than it should be) or both.

Hey does it have to be a specific cr2032 battery to replace cause a bought these energizer batteries that said it was cr2032?
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
Any CR2032 will work. The challenge you will have is soldering a regular battery to the board if it doesn't have the through-hole tabs pre-welded. You could try a through-hole battery holder with a regular battery but it would have to be low profile so there aren't clearance issues. Haven't tried this myself but I'm sure it's possible.

You didn’t remove the plastic GameCube logo piece from the lid. That collects dirt under it easily
