Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

How much damage will you get with your irrigation? Better than that, maybe explain the routing of your new irrigation system. I never miss an episode-best farming channel out there

Hey Nathan I grew up in northern Indiana side dressing anhydrous with our 4020 Three point tool bar with two saddle tanks while my dad cultivated. I want to say back then "60" anhydrous was under $100a ton. Now in SW Wisconsin with hills an contours we plant with a Rawson cart and three point JD planter . zone tillage Putting a part of our N on in the zone a long with 10 34 0 in furrow. Come back with our 284 hagie using our own home made y drops $60 each in material. At v 5 like you said to get kernels around between 18 to 22 And at pre tassel to get 35 long We were able to get 215 average in 23. That's a lot of changes in 60 yrs. Your doing a lot of good for everybody Consumer and farmer a like. God bless

I am most interested and greatful of the knowledge and information you have given us about this topic as applied to maize crops for grain yields. However I would really appreciate it if you could explain the nutrient demands and how and when you feed the crops for your beans and wheat crops at Border Farms please? What part of the assessment process do you use soil tests and analysis for beyond the obvious monitoring of soil pH levels. Many thanks. Dan

Never commented before now I have two comments, two days in a row. Lol my question today is about the acuron one pass herbicide. I used Acuron Gt last year it wasn’t terrible but I did have few more weeds than I would have liked. Curious if the drought we had here in SE Sd could have been a negative affect?

Yes the dry weather will affect herbicide effectiveness. We had some grass escapes last year because of the dry May and June here.

Good morning Nathan, i know you are going to get damaged corn plants at the end of the rows when you turn and i get that the tracks give you less compaction but what if you use a wheeled tractor to put the anhydrous application on. Do you think there might be less damage to the corn plants? I am not a farmer, just asking what your thoughts are on this.

No because then there are 4 tracks instead to 2 because of the duals
