Hey Joe. Got a 3ZJ Cat C model with the 8789 nozzles in it. Pump is all fresh and turned up. The build is based off the 580hp marine engine. It’s currently got a C15 manifold and wastegate turbo. It is the round port head. Do you recommend this one for me? Thank you

I have a 07 c-15 Acert industrial engine and it's almost on 100% load most of the time. I was wondering what you would recommend for a turbo to make a little more power. Supposedly it has a 600hp marine tune. Thanks for your time

It's pretty easy to make one. For the 7FB there is a Ford application that you buy, cut the oring ends off and weld it to the pipe you have. I've done it several times

Have a 2007 250hp cat 3116 Re-fabed in 2017 to California EPA standerds. Stock turbo #666745-E or 0000745-E. What turbo do you suggest.

I have 1998 CAT 3406 after overhaul. Still using old turbo, and thinking about upgrading it without any kind of tune or additional upgrades. The engine currently has 430-450hp, and I'd like to bump it up to 500 if possible. Don't want to hurt the engine. Do you think this turbo will be an overkill?

You could still use this turbo without any issue.m, but you can easily achieve 500 on your factory turbo. If your factory turbo is in good shape, no reason to change it! If you have an issue with your factory turbo or you just want to upgrade to something beefier - this turbo could be used with a lower horsepower file. Most customers are using a 550 or 550BS file with this turbo and it works great!

Cool turbo i got a cat c-15 (6nz) in Australia, i bot a brake saver file, i got original cat turbo still would this turbo give it better go down low ?

I’ve got a 3406c mechanical 425 I’m turning up and changing Turbo. Was gonna run the s410g wastegated borg. Would this one be better ? I’ll be around 530-560hp. My stock turbo spools to slow. The s410g is supposed to spool quick for my set up

The S410G is a stock replacement (177148 and a few other numbers) it will work, but it’s not the ideal performer. I have a customer that just put this size turbo on one of his mechanical motors (3406B) and he’s thrilled with the results Do you have the stock nozzles in the motor? Is the pump turned up at all? If you dial in the fuel, I think this would be a great setup for your mechanical C.

@@momentumworx it is stock nozzles yes. But will be turned up the right way with timing, fuel, etc. Few very knowledgeable cat guys recommended the s410g. Say it works excellent. But you were saying not optimal. Is there a diff size you recommended that would work better in the 530-560 range that spools fast and is possibly more efficient.

@@bigcat2679 Everyone has their own recipe for success, I normally recommend going with what the tuner is familiar with (as they have normally setup similar trucks and they know how to maximize performance with the given components). But the S410G is old technology, it might have been the greatest at one time, but the SX series has lots of advancement over the previous generation (360 degree thrust bearing, FMWs, etc). I'd use a 78/1.32 on your mechanical. The smaller non-gated housing will spool nice and the 78MM wheel will supply more then enough air to support 560HP

just stumbled on your videos and a ton of great info. my question is, I have a 6nz that has a "ghost" tune in it. cat had to dig hard to find where the fuel trims were messed with and they told me its too hot. the truck will pull 1100-the rare times 1200 on a hard pull. I plan on doing. a full tilt and this turbo. BUT, will it be too much boost non gated? also what is the longevity of these?

Non gated with the right file is no problem. a 550BS works pretty well, but I would consult a tuner about it honestly. We have plenty of customers that put this turbo on 100% stock trucks with factory untouched files without issue. Good programing can only help!

BorgWarner does make a wastegated housing for these turbos, but its pretty large - (1.65 A/R). Other option is to run an external gate. Certainly unconventional, but I have heard of it being done.

If they offered a option for the 1.15 ,1.32 ,1.45 it would make it easier to play with serious power and be reliable.

Hey Joe, I have a C15 acert and planning on converting it to a single turbo. It is program at 700hp, would you recommend the s478?

This turbo is a little small for 700hp at the tire, I'd recommend something a little larger like an 80/1.58 or 80/1.45. To me, it doesn't look like an exact direct bolt replacement. The exhaust v band area is shorter than the wastegated stock version so it won't reach your first exhaust pipe where the EGT gauge sensor bolts in. Seems as though some minor exhaust work may be needed to reach the new skinnier turbo.

That’s a great observation Jimmy, but there is normally some give in the exhaust system on these trucks, we have many of these turbos installed on trucks throughout the US (and even a few over seas!) and haven’t had any reports of customers not being able to get their exhaust system attached to the turbine housing of the turbo. Have two 1999 3406e Marine 9WR 800hp @ 2300. Which turbo should I be considering? Currently reaching 100% about 2250. Was told to ask for 50 rpm on the props but how about a turbo upgrade instead?

i have a 3406e 475 putting out 30 lbs of boost would this turbo spool up quicker and will this turbo slow me down when pulling a long hill do to the bigger compressor wheel

I need help on intake temps, my guess is turbo is too small, but I'm curious what everyone has to say. My truck is an 06, engine was just done out of frame, it is no longer a stock MXS it's the block and head with different pistons and cams. Before when the engine was stock my cooling fan would go on when the water temps got to about 215, I did not have the Kevin Rutherford scan gauge at that time so I don't know what my intake temps were. Truck is now single turbo it dynoed 690HP 2300TQ (I have the dyno sheet), when I got the truck back it seems the cooling fan was kicking in no matter what the water temps (rarely goes over 200 degrees) were which was odd to me, and it was CONSTANTLY kicking in! When I got the gauge I noticed everytime it kicked in the intake air temps were up to 163, then down to 125 or so before the fan went off. This would repeat constantly! I have been told by a turbo specialist that the turbo on my truck is EXTREMELY small for a 15L engine. My turbo below is the first one on the list, anything you guys see could cause this, truck has brand new radiator, condenser, and CAC? This is all while the truck is putting in hard work, not on flat ground. Before with my stock truck tuned to 600HP it would climb the same hill but the fan wouldn't kick on till the coolant temps hit 215 and that was usually at the end of the climb. That same hill now the fan constantly kicks in based on intake temps

@@rev9fan1 The more horsepower, the more heat the engine is producing. If your truck is making 690hp to the ground that’s around 800hp to the crank I’m guessing?

@@sstevocamaro I think my turbo is too small, and so is the exhaust housing. I found a guy that knows these engines very well and he told me try a bigger exhaust housing.

Yes, it will work on a 3406B. Just bolting it on will be an improvement, but the level of improvement will depend on what sort of fuel you are throwing at it (IE - turned up pump, larger nozzels, etc)

Internal bearing design. The S430SX name was discontinued and replaced by the S410SX when they updated the bearing design. All the part numbers remained the same.

Hello I have a 3406b with the screws out several turns and have bigger nozzles would you recommend this turbo? Or one that supports between 400-700 hp?

Hi. I have a 1996 Cat 3406c wich i just replace the turbo for a s410sx from Borg Warmer and still getting same 24 psi. Do yo think the small factory manifold is the reason from the not power?

Couple questions: What size S410SX did you get? Is this a mechanical C or early electronic injection engine? Do you have any other upgrades? If you got an 80 or 82MM or an S410SX with a large exhaust housing, this would cause turbo lag and low boost pressure on an other wise stock 3406. Realistically, an appropriately sized S410SX should see atleast low 30s

No shot I would run a 1.32 A/R exhaust housing on anything over 600 hp. The 1.45 A/R exhaust housing would be more acceptable.

I run bw s410s nonwastegate . on c15 programed to 650hp. What the differance between s410s nonwastegate n s410sx nonwastegate.

Hi William - do you mean an S410G? I don't know of an S410S turbos other then a few Schwitzer models. What differentiates the SX from other S410 turbos is the billet compressor wheel and upgraded 350 degree bearing design. @@williamwalter4271 BorgWarner just calls the 174269 an S410 now. 174269 has a 75MM cast compressor wheel, and a non gated 1.32 A/R housing that utilizes a 91MM turbine wheel. 14969880000 (turbo in this video) is a 78MM compressor wheel and 96MM turbine wheel in a non gated 1.32 housing. So other then SX having a billet compressor wheel and 360 degree bearing, the compressor wheel and turbine wheel are also larger then the 174269

@@williamwalter4271 What you have is just a factory replacement turbo, I would recommend it for high horsepower, but if its on there an working - no reason to change it. The 14969880000 is a performance turbo designed for higher horsepower levels. If your 174269, id replace it with something larger - like a 14969880000

I have a Borg Warner Turbo PN 178063 on my 3406B Cat, is this S410SX and upgrade from the one I have? or is this the equivalent?

178063 is an S4DS. Thats an older turbo with a smaller compressor wheel and a much larger exhaust housing. Switching to the S410SX would be a pretty substantial upgrade.

@@jordankirby4612 You're kinda stuck, no real performance options for the square port heads - sorry! But the turbo will work. If this is an aftercooled B model, youll just need to run a sleeve in the compressor outlet. They are not the same, but the fitment is the same; you could use this turbo to replace a 178063. The 178063 is more of a "stock replacement" where as the turbo in the video is a performance upgrade (Billet wheel, 360 degree thrust bearing, etc)
