I don't think I have learned so much in such a short time for an age. These two "boring landscapes-videos" really show how difficult it is. Sadly, what I have learned is how bad my photography is. Even though it kind of hurts I have to thank you.

Fascinating. I had never thought of it in these terms, but it does make sense. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I have had lots of landscape images end up looking like snapshots and not doing the experience i saw through my own eyes justice, and i hadn't thought about using b+W to add drama and impact to a photo. SO for that i am very grateful, thank you. In late September i'm going to be climbing a mountain, (Tryfan, North Wales, UK), with some friends to mark a recovery for one of those friends from several heart attacks and i would love to capture the summit and views to mark the occasion. I will be at the top during afternoon light (it might be rainy or cloudy but just as easily could be harsh sun) as i have no control over the time we climb. I really like the idea of using b+w to enhance the possible large differences between light and shade at that time of day. Have you got any other advice for coming away from this outing with photos that do not just end up like snapshots that will not do the landscape justice. FYI i have a crop sensor camera and following lenses (10-18mm f3.5-5.6, 18-55mm f3.5-5.6, 55-250mm f4-5.6, 40mm F2.8) i know kit doesn't matter as much as person behind camera but so you know what i'm working with. thanks.

Many thanks A Baker. Sounds like you have the same equipment as me! It's difficult to give long-range advice but I hope it is a nice day with lots of interesting cloud formations. You can't really go wrong with that, particularly working in B+W . Also pay attention to lines, lines of fields, fencing, ploughed lines, telegraph poles, electricity cables, and diagonal lines of hillsides, etc. Paths and roads disappearing into the image, that lead your eye into the image, are also very strong. Best of luck!

I agree that striking color is commonplace, and that it often turns into commonplace the best landscape compositions. I also agree on the oranges... try to avoid that at all costs, but I do find color important. In my opinion, with all due respect, because I like very much your channel, it’s just that color is a fundamental part of a composition, and it needs to add rather than substract. Often times the use of color made by inexperienced landscape photographers makes a good composition look vulgar, but that just means that they got that particular one not quite right.

if one person says color landscape photography is more difficult, someone else might consider it more challenging.
