Boris Alexandrov and the Ensemble's Soloists. This is a clip from the documentary film about Boris Alexandrov the conductor, composer and the leader of the Alexandrov Red Army Choir.
The film was made in 1994. This is the episode where the Ensemble's leading soloists from the "old school" Ensemble visit their old leader at his place. Participants: Boris Alexandrov, Leonid Kharitonov, Arthur Eizen, Ivan Bukreev and Alexey Sergeev.
Unfortunately Boris Alexandrov died soon after this movie was made. All other soloists are also gone by now... And the little doggy too...

The members of the Choir have been all blessed with a gift: to transform memory into beauty, making feelings possible to share. The pain of war, the joy of victory, the friendship that was built between them, the recognition and respect they received in their life, from all over the world. Such distilled wisdom is included in their song. I watched the balcony at the end. From outside, it looked small and poor. But inside: jenuine happy people. This is something very few have been blessed with. Your father was one of them. Thank you for keeping his memory alive, giving us the chance to take a glimpse in the spirit of those who achieved great things. May their memory live long, reminding their story and bringing people together in the years to come.

For me, as a singer and a person who fully respects and admires the Alexandrov enseble this is a realy interesting and touching video. I'm really shocked because of the tragedy that happened not long ago, many very good artists are now gone forever. I discovered the Ensemble two or three years ago. I absolutely loved it and slowly learned more and more about it, going further back in time and finding so many interesting songs. This channel...it's a beautiful collection. Listening to Kharitonov, Belyaev, Bukreev, all of them, performances from so long before I was born. Watching this channel keeps them alive. Sometimes I just listen to the performances and I realize that the singers are long gone, passed away, and I become saddened. It truly was a golden age for the Ensemble and all its members were iconic and famous, rightfully so. They were among the greatest in the world and their passion for music is audible in their voices. The joy they have is written on their faces. It always gives me so many emotions. Mikhail, thank you for putting so much effort into keeping the memory and legacy of your father and his fellow comrades in the Alexandrov Ensemble alive.

I saw this some years ago it is a true statement of the Russian heart their comradeship so similar to me as an Australian. Smiling faces good humor jokes singing and having a good time with your mates. I experienced it in Ukraine and Russia and it is very intoxicating and in most cases unseen and foreign to us in the west. Как же это великолепно!!! Просто нет слов, чтобы выразить свое восхищение!!! Сейчас смотрела и просто плакала навзрыд,хотя и раньше осознавала,что всех этих горячо любимых мной певцов давно нет в живых( хотя они никогда не умрут в своих песнях и ариях)!!! И еще плакала от осознания того,что сейчас не вижу и на оперных подмостках достойных молодых басов,которые могли бы в будущем стать славой российской оперы...Хотя промелькнул как-то неплохой басенок Ильюша Червинский(сейчас ему примерно 30 лет, а басы,насколько я знаю,полностью формируются к 40 годам), но много лет его уже не слышу,знаю,что он ушел из Большого театра...Сейчас почему-то гораздо больше внимания уделяют контр-тенорам(причем чаще всего очень заурядным), а про исконно русский голос -бас - совершенно забыли...как это горько...Вчера еще наткнулась на видео,в котором эстрадная певица Валерия пела арию Вани из "Ивана Сусанина"...опять было горько и больно ,что такие вещи и так упрощают..впечатление просто никакое...А Вам,Михаил Леонидович, громадное спасибо за прекрасный канал, за возможность соприкоснуться с прекрасным ,послушать прекрасных певцов, за то, что вы так бережно храните эти бесценные записи и по крупицам собираете их !!! Buenas tardes, que conmovedor hasta las lágrimas. Me dio gusto que estuvieran con el en unos de sus últimos días, me dio gusto y a la vez tristeza cuando el señor Ivan Bukreev interpretó el éxito “smuglyanka” con una voz firme pero gastada a comparación de sus otros compañeros. Me dio tristeza al final ya que sería una de las últimas veces que se reunirían ya que solo 4 años después murió el señor bukreev, y así sucesivamente sus otros compañeros. Eterna gloria a el pueblo sovietico al coro red army choir y a todos sus integrantes

Thank you for uploading the rare video! Ivan Bukreev changed "смуглянка-молдаванка", a part of the Smugliank's Lyrics, maybe with some words indicating Boris Alexandrov . He also seems to have changed "капитан", that of the вечер на рейде's. I wonder if you could tell me the words he changed with and the meaning of them, because I cannot catch Russian.

I have already answered this question here in the comments below... You're right, Bukreev changed this verse here. It was a joke from his side. I think that by "Krasavetsa Moskvichka" (The beautiful lady from Moscow) he meant the Boris's wife Olga Mikhailovna, who was the only lady in that room. So it was a sort of compliment from Bukreev.

One can even notice the effects of years of heavy vocal training on Mr. Kharitonov's and Mr. Bukreyev's normal speaking voices. A bass with a powerful chest voice like Mr. Kharitonov is a rarity nowadays! And of course, the best ones are already at the Alexandrov Ensemble :)
