After 1989 one of the best years of Boris.😍 Total respect to finish 11 years in a row under top ten. One of the best serve & volley players ever who turned over the years also in a baseline player if required. God bless him.

Nobody mentions it but Becker used a 18x20 racquet as opposed to a 16x19 racquet which helped him hit those on the rise returns. Djokovic uses a 18x20 racquet.

Boom boom Becker was a beast on indoor surface. During 1992, Becker brought home seven titles, but in 1993, his personal life took a turn, and after a surprising marriage and a number of tax issues, Becker entered into a mid-career slump. He was able to recover from this by 1995, and once again found himself at Wimbledon. This time, however, though he beat Andre Agassi, he lost to Pete Sampras.However, Becker did win the ATP Tour World Championships against Michael Chang. However he remains one of my favorite players. Though the end of the 1990s was rocky for Becker, his colleagues greatly respected him, and even his rival, Sampras, said that Becker was the best player he had ever played. Throughout his career, Becker played best on indoor carpet and grass courts, and never won a tournament on a clay court.

48 points in video 18 (38%) are unreturned serves 6 (12%) are easy volleys set up by serve 10 (21%) are unreturned return-of-serves basically 71% of points are determined by the serve or the return add in the first serve faults, double faults (if any), and preparation for serves, and the spectators spend over 85% of the time just watching serves, serve returns, and serve preparations and people wonder why ATP won't bring back the fast courts

@@lotus630 the thing is,that a lot of modern players have also great volleys : Dimitrov,Tsisipas,Federer,Kyrgius,Thiem,Nadal,Tsonga.but to play serve and volley after every 1st serve ist useless,becaurce the returner can adapt his return and it is to much risk.also Sampras dominate tennis till 97 as he had great baseline game.in 98 came new tennisplayers with modern game and his baseline game was no match for them since 2000.and he lost his domination.but this is not possible to explane to old heads,who think that Sampras would beat Federer in straight sets

@@ben1147 Great volleying is a genuine skill. But it's a skill this current generation has not mastered. Even the so-called "Big 3" are no exception. Federer and Nadal are decent volleyers at best, while Djokovic is pretty terrible in the forecourt. It's a shame.

@@ben1147 These players didn't s&v on every point. They often stayed back and rallied before approaching. Becker, Sampras and Edberg had no problem hitting with baseliners when they wanted to. 0:05 That's a crazy low bounce, almost reminds me of grass. In later points the ball seems to bounce very low as well. Was this indoor court made to imitate grass?!
@MM-bx1ei
@MM-bx1ei 2 жыл бұрын
This a carpet court. It's not a hard court. Carpet surface is faster and lower bouncing than hard courts. But it's especially hard on knees, joints and can lead to injuries so it is not on ATP Tour anymore per players' request. However I believe there still a few tournaments played on carpet on the ATP Challenger Tour. One was played last week which Oscar Otte won.

@@MM-bx1ei Cool, thanks. The injury thing is new to me, I play on carpet sometiimes (in the winter) and I always found them really smooth and nice to play on, unlike the one time I was able to play on a hard court. Both are impossible for me to slide on, but maybe for pros it's easier to do on a hard court.
@z1az285

@@SomeoneYouKnow2671 the bounce on carpet was lowish but consistent unlike 90s grass. I played on it a few times until they got rid of it, but I loved it a lot more than typical hard which is tough on the body. No problem on carpet for me. Speed wise, it's about the same as the Laykold hard surface I play on today but that's much better on the knees than most of the non cushioned hard surfaces.

@@SomeoneYouKnow2671 Awesome. I do wish they still used carpet in the US. Though I will say Laykold is an excellent hardcourt surface. Fast, quite easy on the knees and with a higher bounce.
