Yea, imagine how hard he'd be serving with today's racquets and strings. Probably mid 130's easily.

I agree. I loved the handshake. McEnroe was cool about it. Fight like mad and then decent to each other at the handshake. McEnroe was a jerk to umpires, but, I like him now.

Sweet upload , 80's era tennis at its finest. Notice time between points, short, sweet, no toweling off. Or bouncing ball 25 times. Get to line and serve. Love signature Becker dive volley on critical point. Miss net play, besides during handshake. Arthur doing commentary. Good stuff. Thanks.

That was one of McEnroe’s best matches after his comeback, and clearly not far away from his peek in 1984 and until the mid ’85 season. He just didn’t have the continuity to get back into the top 3 anymore. Really sad that he got powered away …

I like how Becker and McEnroe actually liked each other DURING the time they played. The 2 guys just seemed to get along, even when some of their matches had testy moments. Most of the time, it wasn't problems with the other player, but usually umps or fans, but generally they just got along.

@@swalterstennis he was always a good looser, he just got angry at either himself or faulty rulings. and to be fair ive never seen mcenroe wrong when he complained about that. todays eagle eye is actually a never version of the inspired by him "mac cam" because of this. so indeed changed that sport a lot more than people realize

@@swalterstennis For McEnroe, EVERYONE in the world falls under one of two categories: "beneath" him and "above" him. If you're the former, he'll treat you like sh*t, the latter he'll kiss your ass. Becker moved to the latter with this win.

I guess that McEnroe didn't notice, as Agassi did, Becker's tendency to serve in the direction that he was pointing his tongue! Agassi has stated that he was able to return Becker's serve so well on key points in a match because he would, according to him, wait until critical points in a match against Becker to read the direction that Becker pointed his tongue just before hitting a serve! If only McEnroe had noticed that tendency by Becker, he would have been more successful in returning Becker's howitzer serve! Agassi didn't tell Becker how he read Becker's serve so well until after they had retired from the men's pro tennis tour and were attending Oktoberfest in Germany one year.
