British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the West needs to end its dependence on Russian hydrocarbons, arguing "we can't be blackmailed this way by Vladimir Putin - we've got to end that."
Johnson was speaking during a visit to RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, where he met crew members and officers involved in intelligence gathering and surveillance and inspected planes expected to be used soon in Poland and Ukraine.
Describing tensions between Russia and Ukraine amid fears of a possible invasion, Johnson said the picture continued to be "very grim," despite Russia's claims that it was withdrawing forces from the border with Ukraine.
Johnson said there was still time to avoid a catastrophe, warning that a conflict would be a bloody and protracted affair.
