This is an AI thing that is really important and useful! I'm sure even though there's a job that only for roto or masking, sometimes it's frustrating for 80% because you know it's manual. So with automatic tools like with AI, it's so satisfying seeing things going on in just couple of minutes than hours or days to do a couple seconds of footage!

Already used it in a production where I needed holdouts of 3 characters walking in front of a graphic. It was incredibly fast and easy for offline quality! Great update. One thing I realized is that even though the matte is 'rendered' from the plugin into AE, you will still need Preserve Frame Rate checked on the comp if you plan to do time remap/speed changes outside of it!

This looks handy. I've been doing quick GMattes in Fusion with Magic Mask for use in Nuke and now I can use this directly with the OFX. Is this built on Samurai?
@BorisFXco3 күн бұрын
Should be much easier to have everything in one place without the need to render and media manage. I'm not sure what the underlying tech is, I'll reach out to our ML team.

I wanted to try out Silhouette for a very long time. Do I still need to? I know it probably has more features, and it's procedural. However, I think it's either this for simple tasks or just go to Nuke for full control.
@BorisFXco2 күн бұрын
It really depends on what you need to do. If you want complete control over roto and mask creation then there really is no better option than Silhouette. We offer a free trial of Silhouette, it's worth exploring.

I couldn't get that many vertices on my mask. How to do it?
@BorisFXco2 күн бұрын
The number of vertices is dependent on the complexity of the shape, but you can add more points manually. Use the Pick tool and hold down the Ctrl / Cmd key to add or remove more points along the spline.

Thanks Tom Hanks. Those AE masks created in the end was sad ending, what if we right click on the footage layer and convert layer to mask? Ae creates mask from alpha as far as i know, Would that work?
@BorisFXco3 күн бұрын
I'm not sure you can convert any layer in AE to a mask. I thought that was only shape and text layers. I may be wrong, and then that would be an interesting workflow to try.

@@BorisFXco Hy, So i just tested it and it works. When you hit "apply matte" on mocha. Just select the layer and go to Layer tab on top and select "auto trace" Check "Work area" so you'll get the animated AE mask

hi Ben, I tried a new product on AE, it works like in your video, but in Adobe Premiere the new function refuses to work, only the old masks work, tell me, when will the new functions work just as well in Adobe Premiere?
@BorisFXco2 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for the question. It should work in Premiere Pro just as it does in After Effects. But... if you have a long clip and you trim it, you should nest it before applying Mocha Pro. It will make the results faster to render and more consistent. Hope that helps. What's the minimum Mac OS version needed for this? We are stuck on Monterey due to 2013 MacPros.
@BorisFXco5 күн бұрын
Machine Learning Plugins (ML) require an Apple silicon integrated GPU with macOS Monterey (12.0) and above. We have set a minimum OS of Monterey 12.7.6. Hope this helps. If an appropriate GPU is not available, ML plug-ins can run on the CPU with significantly degraded performance.

Does this tool need to be used with REC709 footage? How should you tag the footage? Is it better with MOVs? I keep getting horrible results.
@BorisFXco3 күн бұрын
The format of the footage shouldn't make a difference, but the colorspace will. Think of it like a keyer. Keying in the wrong colorspace will never give the best results. You can change the working colorspace inside View > Viewer Preferences. It doesn't have to be Rec.709. If you're working in the plugin this should be picked up automatically from the host. ok..have a masking question...suppose, lets pretend on a layer you have like 3 masks.. A, B, and C...and they all overlap each other... Is there an easy way to chose mask B that overlaps A and C..like in 3d there is "island select" and it will select only those points connected. I click/select roto B and I can now manipulate its rotation or whatever..with out having to select every single point in that mask (accidently selecting a point in mask A or C)
@BorisFXcoКүн бұрын
There's currently no island select, but that is an excellent idea. One way to do this at the moment is to lock masks A and C. Or if you want all of mask B, you can simply right-click and Spline > Select All in Spline. I will definitely pass on the "island select" idea. I really like that.

@@BorisFXco you can lock masks on the same layer??? I'm not talkign about ABC mates are separate Layers..they are all on ONE layer...
@BorisFXco20 сағат бұрын
Oh, I understand now. You can right-click on any spline in the layer and choose Selection > Select All in Spline. Consider though whether it is better to have one layer with everything in, or multiple layers connected to one main track. That's often a more efficient way to do it.

Please Ben I can't figure out the remove way....
@BorisFXco3 күн бұрын
Great question. Basically, you work with Remove in the way you normally would. We need a tracked background and a matte foreground. I would create the foreground matte first using Object Brush and Matte Assist ML. Add a bit of dilation to that matte too, as it will create a better end result. Track the background to get the correct motion of that. You can use the matte you created with Matte Assist as a garbage mask. Then go into Remove. Have the foreground object you want to remove on top and marked with the cog. And hit render. Here's the basic layout for Remove in Exercise 19a : borisfx.com/free-training/mocha-essentials/ Hope that helps. Join us on the forum or Discord channel if you feel like it too. forum.borisfx.com/ and www.borisfxdiscord.com/

We're really thinking of this for garbage mattes and tasks that don't need a perfect level of accuracy. It's not going to roto perfectly for you. Think of it more like a keyer rather than traditional rotoscoping.
