To me, every year garners really funny memes, so I dont really know what would be considered the "golden age" of memes. (I'm a zoomer) Allthough nowadays, memes age so much quicker unless it's video games memes. Those stay eternal for the most part. Wether it's any line from GTA SA, or the goldmine of memes from MGR which are still funny to this day. Those are just the top of the iceberg that I use as an example.

I want to point out that this is, to this day, very region specific. NA had/has memes that they think everyone else will relate to and experienced it but they weren't that big, SA has its own meme culture, Europe and Japan as well. And it's not just memes, every region experienced the growth of the internet in their own different way and I think it's beautiful how we all ended up in this trash pile.

Are you saying right now with the "to this day" ? Because it was totally not the case in the past, we all shared the same memes but this was like before people had smartphones and no one ever talked about memes in RL though I can see it being different with todays youth and like anyone younger than our age group (the 30's+) EDIT: Well actually people did talk about them in RL, but they were usually shoved into lockers, I was one of those assholes who shoved people into locks, I am not happy about my behavior in school.

North America invented the internet. Canada, in particular, had much higher broadband penetration than the US did, so participation in early internet stuff was itself region specific. It's kind of like the invention of electric light bulbs, automotive vehicles, trains, planes, electrical grids, indoor plumbing, the printing press, and so on. The people who invented it set the standards and directed the growth of it. Then other people moved in to what was already created.

It blows my mind that Madness Combat just kept on trucking tbh. I didn't know there was anything after the fourth one and then randomly like earlier this year I found out that Krinkles just kept making them, they kept getting better, and now there's about a full feature length movie's worth of that now, the most recent part was released like less than a year ago. I stopped watching at 4 because my dad saw A Tit on the screen on NG when he was combing over my browser history. Was damn near banned from using the computer. I was like 15. He was absolutely *mortified* that such "filth" was allowed to pass through his modem. Worth note, I actually avoided nudity because it freaked me out at the time so it's not like I was looking up porn or anything, I just happened to go to a site that one could find nudity on. He was fine with gratituous violence though because this was the archetypal "violence is wholesome, sex is depraved" american framework.

I was born in 1997, and growing up in the early 2000s was *weird.* Toonami had just become a thing and was becoming popular in the US, computers were starting to make the transition from cube monitors, PlayStation 2 and XBOX were everywhere. I remember being taught how to use a floppy disk when I was in 3rd grade. By the time I was in high school we had flash drives and high speed internet. I remember AddictingGames, CoolMathGames, ArmorGames, Madness Combat and Castle I, II, III, and Repercussions. I remember what the web was like before it got commercialized and was still this new strange thing. I grew along with the web, and have seen its impact, both positive and negative. Now the internet just sucks.

I was born in ‘96 and started playing games in 2004. 2000-2008 is what I consider to be my reference point. When I started going back to games from the 80s and especially 90s, I was shocked to see how concise and straightforward so many games are from those decades. They literally didn’t have the time on discs and cartridges to waste time or pad things out (barring spiking difficulties to extend playtime). It’s amazing that 2 years was considered a long development time. That and many watershed titles from the 90s feel lopsided and thrown together, like the leads were really flying by the seats of their pants. I entered high school in 2010 right as horse armor, season passes and GAAS was starting to take off. I feel like I fall into that last age group that played games just before all of those auxiliary purchases starting popping up. I’ve always been very critical about what gets slotted as DLC and micro-transactions because of that

So now I'm more knowledgeable than my peers ig, whoops Edit: Also other sister has been an avid tumblr user since I don't even know so I've been blasted with old internet stuff and 90s stuff through her Edit 2 (Can you tell I'm editing as I watch the video?): I also had a phase where I was really into old Newgrounds and all that, still use NG from time to time but that also supplied some culture.

I wonder if the universal desire to die when you're reminded how old you are is some kind of evolutionary development. Like, once upon a time when Grug saw Zoomzoom hunting with a stick with stone on end instead of just stick and went "Grug time to go", maybe that is how Grug realized he has to let Zoomzoom be his own person and build his own world. Perhaps the entirety of human civilization only exists because old people can feel in their bones that it's time to let the young ones take over. So this holiday season you can feel justified telling your old relatives who still harp on you for doing things "wrong" that they're unevolved troglodytes who hold back human progress.

Just turned 37 in October, man. 36 is heavy. 37 will knock you on your ass, Wooly. I'm already staring off in the distance at 38. I remember finding 4chan in 2004 in high school before I graduated. Was searching for anime (and hentai) on some old ass search engine on my school libraries computer. I always wonder if the librarian knew. I didn't have internet at home until years later and in 2007 someone from an old forum reminded me 4chan exists and I went back and never left. It's weird seeing old ass jokes, image macros and shitty mspaint comics shit out by 4chan, gobbled up by reddit and shit into facebook and twitters mouths years, a decade later.

On the older side of zoomers. First console was the n64 and ps1, my dad was a heavy gamer when i was growing up, especially loved tekken. I got on the when the very first AMVs where starting to pop up. I have a recollection of most of the early infancy of our current internet. For context, I'm Puerto Rican, our media is centered around regurgitating all the stupid jokes that the USA did but not memes. When its memes, we have such a disconnect with the rest of the hispanic/latin american comunity.

for me first time i found out about memes was on 9gag but i was browsing before that i just haven't really heard that word before, and also i spent a lot of time with my relatives that were born when "the internet began" so their influence shaped my perception of internet and video games when i was much too young to use it myself. also i did have a big disadvantage of english not being my native language, but through internet and video games i learned, and also the technology was kind of behind in my country so for example when people were getting brand new ps2s overseas, here people would still be buying a ps1 and not really knowing about the new console. so all of that influences me, a person born in ´96 to really enjoy stuff that someone my age probably wouldn't, like snes games. but i do think that snes games can be enjoyed by any mature person at least the best ones. i have also followed machinima a lot back in the days of ye olde youtube, thats how i know about this channel and a lot of other channels from that time, that still hold on.
