I'm right there with you. I first read the book in grade four English literature class. Then it came out as a film. Well of course me, my little sister and Mother went to the Grand Cinema in Calgary to watch it on the big old theater screen. I have had several recordings of first VHS off the Movie Channel. I also bought a VHS copy ata yardsale. Rented it at BLOCKBUSTER! Unfortunately our Player has bit the dust. So now I truly appreciate these clips of it that are available on KZbin. Really Tempted to break my hard fast rule of NEVER purchase anything online, and buy an "Online Copy" that they advertise here! Anyway it's a classic true store that touched my heart and Soul. Also I modeled large parts of my life after the way these two lived and behaved. 🕊❤🕯🦁🙏🏻

This is such a touching movie. I still cry when I see it. I love how she named Elsa. Imagine how someone can have an effect on someone else without perhaps knowing that they did. In this case, Elsa, her little school girl friend touched Joyce Adams so much that she named the lioness after her. Very touching.

I thought that Elsa was named after her first mother-in-law? Anyways, that's one of the versions that I read. This is a wonderful movie and I'm also touched to the point of tears when I watch it.

@@kamka8149 In the movie, Joyce Adams says that when she was a little girl in school, she had a friend named Elsa who was the smallest girl in class, but she was nevertheless the bravest, so since Elsa the lioness was the runt of the litter, but at the same time the bravest [she was the first to drink milk] she reminded her of Elsa her friend

@@rayarena879 Thanks....maybe I'm going by the stories about Joy Adamson and her actual books... From what I've read there, she named Elsa after her first mother-in-law (which I guess is somewhat possible since the real Joy Adamson apparently didn't have the greatest relationship with her own mother, so maybe her first MIL was somewhat of an emotional substitute, but that's just my speculation at this point). Maybe the movie producers and writers changed the narrative for the movie here.

Christian the lion is the young Elsa....THE husband and wife team saw him at his owners home and decicded to have him in the movie. Christian was sent back to africa successfully and led a free life.. dead now but will always be remembered fondly esp by his two friends who found him at Harrods.

Boo Hiss on BBC and Sony TV for blocking Part 1. Big bummers. :-( Wonderful, wonderful movie !!! Many people including myself even when I was so young sniffled and held back the tears at the end of the movie when Elsa had to leave. LOL

What a load of sentimental crap, women in particular treat them as a child substitute, we've seen it so many times with the chimps, then it all goes tragically wrong. Stop trying to humanise wild animals, all of this talk of bonding with them, utter crap.!. What they omit to tell you is the very near possible tragedies they had making this film.
