Born to Be Wild - Ecole Sentinel Secondary (RnB Band)

The Sentinel RnB Band is a grade 11/12 course credit Jazz program consisting of vocalists and instrumentalists who share a passion for live performance within the school and among the wider community. This course allows students to unleash their creativity and expression as well as showcase the mastery of our instruments and voice. These young musicians hone their teamwork and collaboration skills as they learn rhythm and blues songs from the 60s and beyond. Improvised solos are encouraged, and we celebrate each of our strengths and expertise that we bring to the group.
This year the Rhythm and Blues course runs in conjunction with Composition & Production 11/12, making it a real-world collaboration experience for all involved. In addition to completing separate assignments for their Composition & Production coursework, these students are also involved with the RnB Band in the roles of sound engineer, production manager, lighting designer, and transcriber and arranger as needed. Some students even join us as musicians in performance! Many of these students have been a part of the Sentinel Music Program for a few years and for some of them it may be their first high school music class experience.
