Finally remembered that Sam's buddy in this movie is played by the same actor (Elisha Cook Jr) who was Wilmer in The Maltese Falcon. Looking him up, he had quite the career over the decades.

@20:35: My earliest memory of Jack Black was when I saw him in The Jackal when it was in theaters. Ahh..I still remember fondly, him holding out that pack of cigarettes, as Bruce Wilis shouted down range to stand a bit closer to the car before completely blowing him to bits with his custom 50 cal gatling gun, lol! 😂 it just gets better with time...😅

Another Chris Guest improved film with a great soundtrack full of original songs is A Mighty Wind. I have never cared about folk music in the slightest but almost every song in the film lives rent free in my head! “Ea a oe’s!?” Wha happened?!😂

From the first moment I understood why the people in this movie like Sam. Not only is he HOT, but his mystery compounded with that kind of menacing intense possessive nature is something a lot of women in abusive relationships fall for, and the threatening paranoid energy keeps them from leaving or getting help. Also was I the only one who thought the curse that Helen "carries inside her" is old timey code for a pregnancy/abortion?

Sorry Matt, but I have to disagree. I think Dumb and dumber, step brothers, etc., would still exist without the Jerk, because before Steve Martin did it, there was the Three Stooges, Laurel and Harty, etc. You rooted for those guys, and there were pretty dumb. Love the show. Thx.
@langleymneelyАй бұрын
Did anyone else pick up on the abundance of queer undertones in this? It was funny to joke about but it felt like there was SO much unspoken tension in multiple bedroom scenes between same sex characters? I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a pre code version of this screenplay at some point?
@aestevalis0Ай бұрын
I wouldn't say Steve Martin invented the idiot manchild character archetype but he definitely perfected it. Laurel & Hardy. Abbot & Costello. The Three Stooges. Jerry Lewis.

I agree with Matt's take on the Wizard of Oz. Of course I'd seen it probably a hundred times during my childood, but when I rewatched it as an adult, I realized that the script was awful and the characters were shallow and mostly uninteresting. It's just an eye-candy spectacle that we all love because we grew up with it. I guess it also doesn't help knowing about all the human rights violations that went on during the production of the film.
@samueltheprideofafrikarobi9319Ай бұрын
I fail to see why another country is this movie is titled either Lady of Deceit or She's Deadlier than the Male when THE MAN WAS DOING ALL THE DECEIVING AND KILLING. I suppose this was just made in the time where women were looked down on in all societies and we couldn't have people thinking that men could be terrible. 🤷🏿♂️
