That era of robalo is one seriously well built boat. They laid layer the glass up heavy on those boats. We used to have a 25 footer from the era and it was heavy as hell and it was a wet ride when it got rough but it would take anything you could throw at it.

Oh yeah, we've decided to just do a livewell on the transom bracket too, just to keep it nice and open in the back :)
@ericdavi1231
@ericdavi1231 5 жыл бұрын
I’m not a boat expert. But in my 23 center console that has a 250 2stroke mounted on a big bracket, I can tell a difference when my live well is full. My live well is in the back by the transom. When we go diving I put all the tanks in the bow to balance the boat. I’d be careful about adding weight back there, especially if you’re going from a 2stroke to a 4.
@ericdavi1231
@ericdavi1231 5 жыл бұрын
Also, when it gets snotty out, everyone runs for the back of the boat which adds even more weight.
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 5 жыл бұрын
That's not uncommon for a ton of these 23's. That's exactly why we're moving the batteries up into the console and the livewell is going to be one of those plastic ones that we can take off the boat :) That way when diving the whole back of the boat will be wide open! That's exactly what we do with our tanks too! Even on the 34 Venture we put the tanks on bean bags in the bow of the boat lol
@ericdavi1231
@ericdavi1231 5 жыл бұрын
Born Again Boating, I’ve considered moving my batteries up to the console. The best my boat rides is actually when I have a bunch of tanks in the bow. It just slows me down a bit.

Ive been watching your transom videos. I love all your videos but I have done floor repair but never a transom. I was wondering if there ther is a structural reason you guys cut the outside? I dont really want to mess with gell coat and all that so is it ok to cut it out from the inside. I have seen videos of it both ways but you guys are more trustworthy to ask.
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 4 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thank you! Not really a reason, you can do them both ways, it 's all preference and dependent on the boat. We did it from the outside on this boat because it was easier lol but if it's easier on your boat to do it from the inside, it's the same process :) a great person to follow when it comes to professional fiberglass is Andy with @BoatworksToday I'm not that great with glass, I can get the job done on my own stuff, but it's not what I do everyday.

Quality work as usual. Any tips or advice for an aspiring marine tech? There's a 1 year program at my college I'm thinking about taking.
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! As far as some tips or advice. In my opinion, if you don't have the cash to pay for the college, I wouldn't do that. I went to UTI MMI in Orlando for a year, and the school was great and taught me a ton. At the same time though, it put me $35K into debt and took me 4 years to pay it off, so I wouldn't be an advocate for that. Instead, I would say to go to your local marina's and get a job! Most marina's won't take people with zero experience, but with persistence and consistency, you can get a job :) I would say to pick a dealership marina though that carries a major brand, Honda, Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Volvo, Mercruiser, etc. and then you will have the ability to learn how to use the new stuff as well as learn how to use a service manual. Which is extremely important when it comes to becoming a solid Marine Technician. Just go in early on a Monday, preferably before they open, and then wait for them to open, and ask to fill out an application and see if they are hiring. Don't take the application, be prepared to sit down and fill out the app there and turn it in before you leave. Hopefully get you some face time with all the people that are there and kind of feel out the place. Start making some relationships and what not. Then if they turn you down, say ok, and come back the following Monday, in the same fashion, waiting for them to open, and see if anything has changed, and if they are hiring! Usually, after two or three weeks of this, depending on the shop, most will take you in out of pity if they can lol Then make friends with the lead techs and just watch and do what they tell you for the first year and within that year you will advance your career by huge strides!

Nice work!😁 How do you determine when a boat is beyond economical repair (ber)?
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Um, for me, when it comes to rotten stringers and full deck replacements, that is where I draw the line. When it's just a transom or easy access to the fuel tank like this one, I'll do that too, but that's about as far as I'll go. It's important for it to have a decent cosmetic shape too. Also, I stay away from brands and boats that don't have a good reputation and excellent ride. Like this Ocean Master, they are known for having a great ride and they are still in business today. So you can look at what the resell value will be after the boat is finished. When finished, this boat will be a 20-30K boat, if not a little more. If the numbers don't add up, then it's beyond economical repair for me lol

@BornAgainBoating

Both! We'll use it for a few months and do another boat in the mean time. Then when we finish it, unless we really like it, we will usually sell it. If you do the work yourself it's not that expensive, but it you pay to have it done, your shooting to hopefully come out even :/
