Borongan, officially known as the City of Borongan, is a 1st class component city and capital of the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 71,961 people.
Catbalogan, officially known as the City of Catbalogan, is a 5th class component city and capital of the province of Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 106,440 people. It is Samar's main commercial, trading, educational, financial and political center.

‘Di po, culture talaga dito sa western samar kahit sa mga municipalities makikita mo ang kalat at ang dumi, lalo na sa coastal area daming basura pati sa mga maliliit na mga isla. Basta talaga sa part ng western samar ang dumi.

Catarman is not a city but it has more national brand stores/shops than any of the two such as: Gaisano Grand Mall, Citi Hardware, 578 Dept Store, Robinsons Appliance Center, Handyman, Gerry's Grill, 2-Jollibee, McDo, Mang Inasal,, 2-Mercury Drug stores, 4 branches of-South Star, drugstores, Citi Drug,, 2 Watsons, Goldilocks, 3 Mister Donut, with one full service resto at Gaisano, Penshoppe, Oxygen, Bench, Rapide etc. But still I don't consider Catarman better than either of the two cities.

mas matindi ang mga naging patayan (politically-motivated) noon sa catbalogan o sa province ng samar kung ikumpara mo sa mga krimen sa borongan...mas marami yatang mga napababa na mga "taong-bundok" (npa) ang borongan o province ng eastern samar as a whole, na initiated by then governor ambil...hanggang tuloy2X na maintenance ng kapayapaan sa province...actually ang northern samar naman at hindi ang eastern samar, at mga northern areas of samar or western samar, ang mas rebel-infested...kaya mali ka sa sinasabi mong mas nakakatakot sa borongan kaysa catbalogan...
