Old games feel a lot more realistic and old-school to play while Snowrunner has taken a bit of a modern approach which isn't bad but doesn't suit it very well, especially the old trucks
@shalindelta78 сағат бұрын
Both games are great but Snowrunner wins for sheer content to me. I play Snowrunner almost daily.
@SD1ONE8 сағат бұрын
@ Yes content & various improvements are there but All that comes at cost of authenticity & feel which was peresent in old games.
@Dzaen2Сағат бұрын
What does "modern approach" mean? SR is more flashy, better graphics, bigger maps but it's a sheer downgrade in physics, truck body physics, sounds and all the other stuff mentioned in the vid. In my mind a more modern game has even better physics, not worse.

As someone who played the OG games and Snowrunner, my biggest problem is the lack of weight. You can see in those crashes how unrealistic trucks react to suddent changes of weight distribution in SR. Driving small vehicles in the OG games was so much better because they actually grip. Because of this, you can also gain some speed on regular roads, not fearing the vehicle is going to tip over or doing something strange because of the lack of weight and grip. Honestly the sounds too are so annoying in SR. The Mastodon dlc is such a downgrade. Those old soviet commie giants deserve way better sounds. Its shocking to me, that they have all those audio files in their power. In the end, MudRunner was published by Saber... why can't they just borrow the good sounds from MudRunner? I quit using the Mastodon after a while because I just hate how it makes that "roar" sound in a loop when you change gear. Many trucks have this awful loop that repeats and goes forever.... Very nice video SD1

That's something I also find very annoying. Cool and very good truck, but very underwhelming and also the fact that it has a custom water tank but not log or fuel tank is super annoying.

SnowRunner is in many ways an improvement on its predecessors, but there were quite a few compromises and tradeoffs done in the process and it's also "dumbed down" to appeal to wider audience. For example: * New cargo system was introduced, but in order to have fixed locations of cargo relative to the whole truck/trailer chassis, we lost the chassis flexing. * The controls were changed such that they focus primarily on controllers and the keyboard and mouse are now the alternative option and many controls were simplified to make the game "more approachable", meaning that we lost a lot of controls that were available previously. The trend of "dumbing down" games to attract more players was very popular around the time of SnowRunner release, but many developers/publishers have since realized that this doesn't really work and that the majority of players for certain genres of games seek challenge and simulators are really one of such genres. This is IMHO the reason why there hasn't been much excitement for the Expeditions among the Spintires series fans as that game is in many ways even further simplification of SnowRunner. I know most of the dev team of 3DIVISION, who realized based on the player feedback during the early access of their "Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic" game (city builder and logistics sim with the theme of Soviet era - planned economy, architecture, vehicles and everything else), that the vast majority of the players turn most if not all the difficulty settings to maximum, which was the exact opposite of what they were expecting, and based on player feedback, they introduced even harder game mode before releasing the game.

Mudrunner it's more realistic, the trucks are heavier and don't bounce, in snowrunner the trucks are very light, they look like cars or vehicles from GTA.

SD1ONE is back with his "Mudrunner was better than SnowRunner" nostalgia😂

It hurts because SR should have been an improvement in the physics department not a downgrade.

I really miss the logging crane from old games. The grip was much more firm, the camera wasnt finicky, and there was a good light. And I realised that SR dont actually have any transmission options for wheels. Sooo lame, MR had 8 gears to setup.

Another thing that would be awesome to have is mod support for mudrunner on console but they know that this would decrease their SR and his DLCs sales

Just imagine if Snowrunner had all these details from the old games it would have been the perfect off road game.
@SD1ONE3 сағат бұрын
exactly..its a shae they've to let go of those details for new stuff
@simeonbairaktaris40924 сағат бұрын
Yeah, the older games were basically a passion project of their creator, Pavel, snowrunner is made by a big company, so they often don't care about the details, ship the stuff quick, charge for it, if it works, dont fix it, etc. I've been hoping to get addons that can match the color of the truck, but they are too lazy to even do that.....
@SD1ONE3 сағат бұрын
MR was also made by saber with Pavel as lead dev...
@simeonbairaktaris4092Сағат бұрын
@SD1ONE that's right, Pavel as lead dev. He kept their laziness and money hungry tendencies at bay. As soon as he was gone, boom, lazy tactics started. Snowrunner is out for what? 5 years now and quite successful, but they still can't bother to at least make 1, ONE set of Russian styled add-ons for the eastern trucks...

Physics definitely need sorted. Fix rebound damping so there actually is some. Reduce opposing force when objects penetrate terrain - seems like the deeper you clip in the greater the force kicking you out. Hence the glitch throws and crash bounce back

All excellent excellent points, SR is more flashy, but at it's core, physics, truck dynamics, truck flex, they way the truck interacts with the mud, sounds, Mudrunner is the better game, truck feels more alive/real, while in SR it's like the are RC trucks made of plastic, the cranes were better in MR as well. Mudrunner had less budget, but SR had less attention to detail.
@Niodium5 сағат бұрын
Wholly agree with all of this. I love Snowrunner but there’s no doubt that it was “dumbed down” to allow compatibility with consoles. I know the latter is a huge market, but itmis a shame. I especially agree about the sound. Real opportunity missed.

i'm really enjoying playing SR (i didn't played a lot of spin tires/mudrunner, like 3 hours max) and now i just finished alaska yesterday, but I do remember that few things we're better in the old games, 100% the sound of the vehicles, I literally play SR listening to some music everytime because the sound of the trucks are awful. Let's hope for some improve in the next game (RoadCraft) BTW love your videos and also love the game even with a lot of issues lmao

@@newportlord Roadcraft is a side title like Expeditions, it's not meant to be the next big sequel and so it's not expected to sell incredibly well. They are kinda like side projects to test out new mechanics and whatever is received well will be implemented into a proper sequel game in the future.

I pretty much only use certain modded trucks that feel like the mudrunner vehicles have actual weight flex good suspension models and actual tires pretty much all the base trucks have little to no flex of suspension or frame rubber band looking leaf springs and hopping tires at speed or turning also models are very shit.

I feel like a lot of these changes have been made but there in Expedition's. Mudrunner couldn't sync multiplayer physic & even some sounds between players & due to SnowRunner's size they couldn't nail the feel & physics but was still a massive hit Snowrunner is kind of a downgraded version of Mudrunner but with stupid amounts of mission's & physics objects in the map's cargo fencing debris yes even the missions around the map meaning they couldn't have both Snowrunner but with Mudrunner's awesome physic's I hope they patch Snowrunner get the Multiplayer working good finish out whatever DLC they have & call it done It's still the best game in its own way finding the right balance just look at expeditions it's an awesome game as a concept now we have a lot more than just logging mission's thanks' to SnowRunner this .....errr Reboot of Mudrunner is just a little to repetitive fun at 1st & it's hard as hell I enjoy it but even I find myself getting fed up Now just all of us Rember Sabre have leant a LOT from these game's what work's Mudrunner how much is too much Snowrunner just look at the multiplayer stop pumping out DLC & just start fixing it will take year's to finish playing this game & what's too ambitious Expedition's ROADCRAFT SHOULD BE AMAZING GIVEN ALL OF THIS EXPERENCE THEY'VE HAD.

I don't think many know but MR and SR used different game engines, MR uses an evolved version of what Spintires ueed (the one developed by the original dev), while SR uses Saber Interactive's own (most likely upgraded with knowledge and code from ST/MR's engine). The Saber Interactive one is called Swarm Engine and it's the same engine (not the same versions obviously) used in World War Z and W40K: Space Marine II. That's part of the reason why some of the physics are not exactly the same. The devs either didn't bother tweaking the engine's physics and gameworld to suit the more advanced predecessor, or the new engine (in it's release date format at least) wasn't capable of doing such things. It's most likely the former tho. As for the (often missing) sounds and the lack of simple gameplay elements like packing your long logs trailer... that's just the publisher/dev BS of skimping out on any content they can to reduce the costs of developing the game, nothing more nothing less.
