Bose QC 45 and Sony WH-1000XM4 COMPARISON

Great video! I prefer my 45s over the XM4s because the Sonys touch my ears. I thought it wouldn't be a huge problem, but even wearing them for short periods of time, the pressing quickly became too much for me. In the Bose, my ears don't touch at all! Plenty of room. It really made a world of difference for my own wearing experience. I also found out I really appreciate Bose's physical buttons because with Sony's touch controls they activate from fabric touches, like if you brush against your clothes or if you're lying down.

Yeah, QC45 is definitely more comfortable than XM4. I also have the same issue with XM4 regarding the touch sensor. I get way too many accidental touches than I expected. Thanks a lot for watching!

Good review! It's all about preference. Both have extremely good sound quality. But I personally prefer the QC45s since they are more comfortable (actually, they are THE #1 most comfortable headphones I've ever tried) and lighter. In the end of the day, headphones are wearables.

I prefer Sony xm4…the music on the q45 is so flat even with eq settings. You nailed it with your analysis when describing music coming to life with Sony xm4 compared to Bose q45. Sound quality was key point for me. I realized that whatever choice of headphone people choose, choose the feature that is most important to you and be willing to compromise on a trade off. For example, sound of music is top priority for me and 2nd is comfort. Qc45 is the more comfortable out of the two, but it doesn’t mean that Sony’s is bad. That’s why I chose Sony with no regrets.

I bought the QC45 yesterday, and I agree that the sound is a little flat when listening to music, but my podcasts were ok, as I listen to podcasts more than music I don't mind, but for music I don't think there great. They are very comfortable & the noise cancelling is very good .

This was my experience as well, build quality fantastic with metal hinges, and noise canceling were good quality. However, the audio profile was very flat like you said. I wonder if the EQ update the QC45 received made any difference to its sound

I like your analysis. It does feel very real and unbiased and you covered some points not mentioned by others. Btw, what about the noise cancelling part, which is better? I don't listen to music often. My main purpose is to block out noises so that I can focus at work.

Awesome information. I lean more towards the music side of the headphones. Question, something that reviewers seem to skip. Which of these headphones or any are waterproof??? Would a few raindrops on the M4, cause a issues with the small opening on the L & R cups? Do we real have to put our headphones away when we get caught in a drizzle????

I have these both as well and lean toward the bose. At first i liked xm4 better because of the features. Same as you the stop on take off, and the sound was fun. However, bose is better built (metal hinge, braces on the band) it's why they don't often break, and after a couple years they fixed wind noise and eq closed the gap on sound for me. I actually prefer the sound on bose. Finally the one thing that really distinguish them for me is the comfort bose leading. As you say the battery is the same. Everyone says sony is long but i suspect they aren't actually testing it they are nearly identical. I find the bose app clear with just the features I need. Sony is easy to fix and upgrade the battery. I'll throw that in because i like to fix things. Even though I prefer bose, and it's a lot cheaper (i get them at 269) i can see why people like sony too. Esp the previous xm4/3. XM5 IMO is over rated. The anc isn't better overall just in some aspects, and it's even less comfortable IMO, and there have been many issues again with the band. They really need to address that. In general sony relies more on passive isolation (which by the way is good) it's more fool proof and cancels differently than anc (getting highs and suddden sounds better) at the cost of comfort.

Very nice review, most imp part is headphones should create energy in mind while listening songs.. and sometimes we smile due to how the headphones is sounding very good.. Before I buying xm4 I always used to think about how i will feel when listening song with the expensive headphones, but no one given a basic imagination to me... Thank for this video

Sold my XM4 for the XM5 because of comfort but man the XM5s are even more uncomfortable than the previous. I went with the QC45 afterwards and the comfort is the best I've experienced (owned Soundcore Space Q45, Sony XM4, and Sony XM5). I compared it with the Sennheiser Momentum 4 and the Focal Bathys in the shop where I got it and the previous headphones sounded better but the QC45 was by far the most comfortable and it sounded good enough for me. The only issue with these headphones is that the ANC/Transparency aren't able to turn off and the sound isn't as lively as the Sonys and the Sennheiser/Focal headphones. Other than that, it's helped me so much with work and general lifestyle since these really do block out so much noise.

@@b1gthecaT It's worth it if you straight up don't like the XM4/XM5. I didn't like either because I found both uncomfortable. If you're ok with the comfort just stick with them since it'll be most likely just a side grade.

Sony has way more bass than Bose. If you feel QC 45's sound is somewhat flat and boring then Sony's XM4 would be a better choice. QC 45 is more comfortable than XM4 but not by a huge margin. Hope you make the right choice!

Before watching this video I was going to go for the Bose but after watching I’ve just ordered the Sony and the midnight blue is just gorgeous. Also ordered the XM5’s for the hubby. Have you tried those ones out?

Excellent choice on midnight blue👍 I have XM5 and there's not much difference in terms of sound. It has a new design, which is not necessarily better than the XM4 but it looks cool though. I gave my XM4 to my girlfriend and she loves it. I hope you guys love new headphones too!

I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to : is the sound quality of the QC45 the same on both quiet and aware modes ? Compared to the mediocre sound on passive mode ? I mainly use it in an already silent closed room and don't need that much of an airplane pressure on the ears, it would be great that the aware mode was the same sound quality without the extreme noise cancelling which seems useless in that case. If bass matters to you, Sony is the one but Bose is better overall. It’s more comfortable with awesome noise canceling, and easy to use.

hi, thanks for the video! i have weird head shape for headphones i guess it's a bit slim, Srhythm NC35 fits perfectly. Anker Q30 is horrible my priorities: comfort, ANC, headphone shouldn't be so wide Sony xm4, Sennheiser Momentum 4, Bose QC45 i can't choose which one to get. any recommendations? i am kinda desperate atm i have to choose a good headphone immediately :(

It's about 5:23 ❗ I have noticed, that when you turning them off, the led light doesn't blink. I bought a pair of XM4 and when I am switching them off, the light sometimes blinks, sometimes doesn't just like 5:23. What do you think ? Get the bose qc45 SE! They're the same as the qc45 but with a soft case and wayyyy cheaper! comfort on top and anc also really good. It's a no-brainer

I would definitely choose QC 45. It makes brighter and more crisp sound. Sony’s bass is too overwhelming for classical music.
