I have both. Smart speaker is louder but Max has a better quality stereo sound.

I have bought of the speakers and I can tell you the max is a better buy because it’s a stereo whereas the other one is mono and when you listen to the speaker over 75% it will lower the bass and sound quality as well.

I have Max and 2 soundlink flex and I sold the 2 Flex. Max it's really good speaker. Comparing with 2 flex I stereo it's loud the same, but has clearer sound and better bass. In general it's really good speaker.

I have a Bose portable speaker for personal listening. Is it worth upgrading to the Bose Max? I prefer 360-degree sound over directional sound. Can't differentiate much between the two on TV. How do they actually compare in real life?

If you already enjoy your 360 sound from the Bose Portable Speaker, I wouldn't buy the Max.

Thank you for your feedback. The smart speaker does sound good. I mostly use it to play music over Wi-Fi, which sounds better in quality since it's linked to my Amazon Music. However, do both the smart speaker and the Bose Max sound the same? I've heard that the Bose Max has much better bass.
