In this video I'll show you how to defeat Chinese disc detainers by exploiting one of their design defects. These are tough to pick open, but DO have a weakness.

When I was enlisted in the US Army, we got some really nice high-security pad-locks; hardened shackles, hardened steel bodies and cylinders. The down-side was that about 2 dozen of the locks were keyed 'flat'! Yup, every notch on the key was the same level! Each lock had a different profile, to be sure, but the profiles were essentially a straight line with tiny 'teeth'! We sent them back after I was able to pick every one of them with a small screw-driver...

That's extremely unfair towards these chinese locks - a Master lock is defeated, literally, in ONE SECOND! Check it out (another bosnianbill video): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKSti5KhgM-Lmac

ACK! Plastics for lock detention?! C-razy. Basically you can hold a lighter under the lock and heat up the guts and then with a gloved hand just yank the shackle and the balls would deform the softened plastics.

there is something faster its called Bolt cutters, i know as that is all was left of my lock (just a bolt cutted padlock) as my bike got pinched at college Very long long time ag o(the new bike the news paper got me after that followed me into the collage every time after that and they did not stop me,, now i look at it it would of been bad PR for the collage if they did stop me so i guess its why they allowed it but did not tell me if i was allowed or not) any way these things will not be immune to a bolt cutter. all the fussing with screwdriver and pulling it out when you can just cut it with a small bolt cutter in 5 seconds (and most of that time is getting it out to put it over the lockbar) and be gone with the bike. even cheap D-Locks only require shock to brake them (one hit hammer and a large flat head screwdriver) most newer Real bike locks have 2-4 layers of protection you cant saw them and its nearly imposable to cut them (unless you have a circular saw but it make a lot of nose and even then Plastic or kevlar might even Jam the disk)

When I saw the plastic retainer, I got an idea... Use a metal hook to pull on the body of the lock, and just use a blow torch to heat the lock. As soon as the plastic melts, the lock should pop open... I'm guessing the lock should be blown open in about 30 secs.

@Vograx
@Vograx 8 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, but you see it all too often that products are marked with shady statements.Best way to make sure you get a quality product is to search for product reviews and testing of products.
@jukka-pekkatuominen4540
@jukka-pekkatuominen4540 8 жыл бұрын
Ghroznak Actually I don't see that very often. In Finland it's not that common to find a product with false advertisement and when something like that happens it's always big news as false advertising is illegal. In EU there is actually (in certain set of products) a set of marketing phrases that are the only ones you are permitted to use and you have to have scientific studies to back up your claim. Does it happen "too often" that I cannot really say much about. Probably does. Haven't really looked that much into locks though so perhaps there is something shady going on. What I can remember by heart is that most locks comes from Germany (Abus etc.) and of course Abloy makes almost all the locks in Finland (being a Finnish compamy).
@Vograx
@Vograx 8 жыл бұрын
Well, hardened is a bit of a vague thing though. I can label fruit and put "Fresh" on it. When is it not fresh though? After one day, two days, four days? If the lock is stamped hardened, and they just used cheap and ineffective methods to harden it ? There is no enforced limit on how strong it needs to be.

No matter how strong the lock is its also what it's attached too. I had a buddy who paid crazy money for a top lock for his shed. I said give me a crow bar and I'll pop that clasp off since it's only held on by wood screws in a 1 inch thick piece of wood. I don't have to touch the lock. I'd love to see some great high security ways to attach the locks to.

I believe the top part of the lock is called a "shackle", not a "hasp". A "hasp" is a slotted hinged metal plate that forms part of a fastening for a door or lid and is fitted over a metal loop and secured by a pin or padlock.

leon vdd Perhaps we just come from different backgrounds -- I assure you that's not a religious thing in my neighborhood. Even the great atheist polemicist Christopher Hitchens routinely started his debates by saying "Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, comrades, friends, brothers, sisters, for coming." I mean no more and no less than he did. It's a colloquialism I refuse to let religion have exclusive control over. If it's a turn of phrase that bothers you, I encourage you to ignore it. :) And smile -- the world is beautiful, Master Lock sucks, and variety is the spice of life. Cheers!

I have a question. It may be silly, but if you are basically "gutting" the lock itself what's the difference between doing the vs destroying the lock all together? I'm aware you could reassemble said gutted lock. But wouldn't that just take as much time as picking Said lock with the special tool? Sorry if this question seems ignorant I honestly just don't know, and wanted to know the reasoning. As a locksmith do you have to reassemble said lock? Thanks love your vids!

The problem with locks keeping our bicycle safe is the weight and knowledge of what lock is good and not.

A lot of people in my area use those locks thinking that if they look solid and have an unusual locking mechanism are secure, but after seeing this video I decided to use better locks.

hi bosnianbill, how you cut your padlock? i have simmiliar padlock like that, i cannot open the padlock from bottom. i have broke many screwdriver when try to open from bottom.

The whole point of this video is that what the lock looks like outside has little to do with what's really inside. But there are some common indicators, if you look carefully (and are willing to wreck some trash). Maybe your padlock is actually good quality, lol. Screwdrivers come in different qualities, too. Lock is metal, tool is metal, the weaker metal will break first.

I am curious what makes you conclude that every inferior lock is made from China? And how several items you got represent all Chinese lock? Feeling so superior like an immortal
@GhostInTheShell29
@GhostInTheShell29 8 жыл бұрын
+Hongchuan Li Since the inside parts are identical on all these brands the guts of the lock most likely were all produced in the same factory. To sell products in the U.S. where a product was made most be on the product or the packaging. If anything this makes China superior, because your selling the world crap and getting paid money for it.

Callsign Vega It doesn't matter where its from. What matters is quality. A lot of good stuff is made in China too. And cheap crap sometimes comes from places you'd expect better from.

. . . . . . . . . wonder of a bodywork "slaphammer" used for auto body work to pull dents out of vehicles could be screwed into these locks and the core, guts "slapped" out ??

bosnianbill It's precisely what I do to these locks, I welded a smaller hook on to the end of one and insert it, find a gap between discs and it's all over. If you get it right down the end everything comes out at once. Not very professional as a locksmith but showing a customer how easily the lock is defeated often gets a sale on a better lock.
