Many thanks for great review. Can you specify the " harmony reference pitch" on this amp, and how would you know what setting to choose.

Hi Chrissy, the amp has 3 settings: high harmony , unison or low harmony Which setting you chose is determined by which MELODY line you're singing e.g. if you're singing a low melody then you'd choose the high melody setting to compensate, and vice versa. Unison is bascally an automatic double tracking setting to thicken vocals live. Hope that helps.

Hi Barry - The ACS chorus actually only applies to the guitar channel. There is a delay for the vocal side and independent reverbs for both channels. I have learnt over time not to over-do vocal effects. So you can hear just a bit of reverb on Andrea's voice and that's about it.

I really don't like any of the vocal harmony high mid or low. Wish they had included an on/off switch for that on the head not just a foot switch.

I went to see a house concert last night and I have to say, I found the "click/click" of the looper foot-switch distracting. Any plans to supply a soft-switch pedal-board with this? What foot switches are compatible? Seriously considering this amp.

Try a Boss FS-7 (in fact, for the ACS, get two!) www.boss.info/global/products/fs-7/support/ Yes, like your concert on this vid I am using just a standard sort of switch you might see with electric guitar set ups, and you are right, it's far too loud for an acoustic session. But The FS-7s are here at Mega Music and they are nice and quiet, designed to work well with it.

Yes, as far as I recall it will simply harmonize whatever the singer does and provide wonderfully atonal thirds and fifths to the out of tune root note. Of course if you are asking me if it will help a bad singer to sound good, the answer is no. For that you need Autotune, preferably one that has a 'Kanye' switch (US) or 'Goodrem' dial (AUST) for those excessive sonic corrections. in every video I see (where this boss amp is used) I see low volume half whispering voices being used to advertise this amplifier . being a singer of some experience I wonder fore sure if a strong singing voice opens up , will this amp still be usable.?? (I doubt it) second , I often rehearsal with electric guitar . using a fender pro junior amp for the guitar. in such cases I found out that I can forget getting a fine balance of equal volume, balance and ambiance with portable combo voice amps . so far I have not seen any producer building combo amps for electric guitar and voice. I dream of an pro junior guitar amp and a equal voice amplification in one combo . that is what is wryly missing on the marked maybe an idea for boss

Hi Kay - you raise a couple of issues which I'll respond to as best I can: This singer is herself a professional and as the guy playing guitar with her, I can promise she wasn't whispering. The amp coped with her volume very well. For an even louder singer (I, for example have a loud singing voice) you simply would adjust the input volume so it's clean, then turn up the master to the desired volume for the situation. So the main thing to think about is whether the amplifier is sufficient for what you are going to use it for. On stage at a 1000 person concert? Probably not. In a small venue, restaurant or acoustic, yes. Electric guitars can be a great accompaniment to singing of course, but you'll rarely see them played through a combo. As you've experienced, it's difficult to amplify a guitar well in an amp designed for acoustic, vocal (or bass or keys for that matter). This is because guitar amp circuitry is specifically designed to handle the (low) signal of an electric guitar, often processes it and adds a tube to warm it up, eq to balance it etc. Clean and acoustic signals like keys, vocals and microphones don't have the same processing usually. That said, it is theoretically possible for Boss to make it using electric amp modelling circuitry. The question for them would be whether there are enough people with the same requirement as you to make the R&D and manufacturing a profitable exercise. My guess would be that generally electric guitar is about being loud and often distorted, and that it's generally never a solo instrument (in the way that a piano or acoustic are), so it's going to be rare than an electric would find itself alone with a vocalist. But if that's what you do, I'd suggest considering amp modelling units (Boss make them) plugged into the combo. They will help compress and process your electric guitar and make the signal more manageable and complementary to the vocal in the other channel.

The amplifier is designed for acoustic guitar which means it handles the frequency range in a guitar best. I would exercise caution for keys as keyboards can play very low frequencies which need an amp designed for the extra load. I would not use it for bass.

Very similar array of features, although the ACS are of course an amplifier with speaker so in choosing between them I would consider whether you want an amp or just the effects unit.

For some there are similarities. But there are some big differences for mine. Singtrix (which I think you mean) is a vocal system, so not ideal for playing acoustic guitar; Singtrix only pumps out 40 watts, the ACS Pro is 120 so much more power, and while Singtrix does harmonies, I would be interested to know if it has the 'intelligent' feature that will keep your harmonies in tune with the chords underneath - certainly it wouldn't just by playing guitar as the ACS does. Singtrix is designed for family fun and is priced accordingly. The ACS Pro will handle professional musicians playing live in an entertainment setting so it's more expensive, but the price difference would be appreciated by live musicians. Hope that helps!
