Boss OC-2 Vs OC-5 Octave Pedal BASS BLIND TEST!

Answers revealed at the end of the video... Headphones or decent speakers recommended, as spoiler alert some of the differences are pretty subtle!

Nice playing mate, and good video. They both still stand up. The tracking on the OC-2 can often be improved by replacing a cap or two. I still prefer the sound and feel of the oc-2, but man the OC-5 has some cool tricks that's for sure...

Finally got around to watching this. I saw your post on Talkbass! :D I did a couple comparison videos on the OC5 and noticed that the OC5 was slightly bassy-er than my OC2 “Octaver” so I guessed it right! But this video just proves yet again that the difference is so minimal that it’s not worth hunting and paying for the OC-2 (says the guy that owns an OC-2 “Octaver” lol).

It really is so close! Funnily I feel like the OC-2 has more of those real low lows! But I've heard the octaveR has less, supposedly! I'd imagine they are all a little different from one another.

@@PaddyBlight Oh really? It was the opposite with me. My "Octaver" all the way up had more volume (w/ dry signal) compared to the OC-5 at 12 o'clock. It also had a fatter sound in the 80Hz range where as the OC-5 had more low bass and resonated around 40Hz (I think).

I use to have an oc2 and now own a OC5. The latest one is simply better! You get something old and something new! The improved tracking is what makes it better

purists are gonna cop OC-2 all day (with their ridiculous $$$ ask) when both sound practically indiscernibly identical and the 5 is more versitile. own two 2's Ive owned for 20 years and I wouldnt hesitate on a 5 if I needed one. Also, nice vid / basses / playing

I preferred B and would've sworn it was the OC-5! I own a early MIJ OC-2 and it tracks poorly (or I play sloppy...)

You're not the only one to have thought the same! I find these track pretty equally to one another to be honest. I wasn't asking too much of them for the demos though, nothing speedy. Might show weaknesses then!

Honestly it's so close! I'm going to do a shootout with 4 other OC-2ish pedals in the next few days before deciding. My gut feeling is I find the OC-2 a little more fun to play for some reason!

@@FabricioAlves79 Personally I'd say the OC-2 has more presence if they are both at the same volume. The 5 will go louder though!
