Playing bossa nova on guitar is what inspired me to make this little documentary. I dug deep into the history to piece it together because I really wanted to know. But I was so excited that I forgot to do one thing: Pronounce the some of the names correctly! Some of my Portuguese is off and I apologize. Maybe one day soon I will make a Part 2 that covers more areas of bossa nova and where I will also correct my bad pronunciations. Thanks for watching and for all your comments!

Getz/Gilberto is possibly the greatest record that ever came out of brazil. It's one of my favorites of all time, top 5 even.

Ultimately I lay back in my home or on the terrace here in rural Sumatra and listen to Bossa Nova, picturing 1950-60-70s coastal Brazil. Just the good life. It does soothe and set me back in a vibe I mean to be in. Hard to describe it all, but it's the life.

The world has to be grateful to Brazilian musicians (like Gilberto, Jobim, Bonfa etc) for Bossa Nova music which I had listened to since 1960. The rhythm of bossa nova is bouncy yet soothing. My favourite Brazilian songs are: Manha de Carnaval fro the play Black Orpheus, Meditation, Corcovado, One Note Samba etc. I find bossa nova music very soothing.

Nice video :) I would recommend you the works of Jorge bem Jor he's my favorite when it comes to Bossa nova, although he would eventually move to much more experimental music (check out his song "Charles Anjo 45" to see what I mean), his first album is a Bossa nova classic.

Johnny Alf?
@PhilipJacksonMusic4 ай бұрын
Yes! He was a progenitor of the bossa nova style. I focused on the late 50s and didn't know anything about his work in the early 50s at the time that I made it. I'd like to make a prequel/sequel to this documentary and include him and fix the bad pronunciations I made of some of the names. And maybe add a few more people that popularized the genre.
@madz33894 ай бұрын
@PhilipJacksonMusic4 ай бұрын
@@madz3389 I am definitely going to dig deeper into the roots of the genre now. Starting with Johnny Alf and include names like Alaide Costa, whom I wasn't aware of. And if I go further into the 60's and 70's I'll include Jorge Ben. Thank you!

I found this lovely song that was made with the influence of a frog croaking. It's called Frog Jazz and came from TikTik. Now what I dislike about Frog Jazz is that it is not Jazz. It's obviously Bossa Nova. Shure Bossa Nova was influenced by Jazz but still it's its own genre of music.

I've never heard of Frog Jazz but interesting! I'll look into it.
